Those who gave birth already

Any one with gestational diabetes who gave birth already how did they monitor your blood sugar levels in the hospital? Just want to know what to expect. Did you eat? Did you receive any insulin?

Following i also have gd that's a good question

Also have GD and following

I wonder if it makes a difference if you're diet controlled vs medication controlled too

Well diet control is going to be tricky in the hospital with whatever you bring snack wise or whatever they provide food wise. And if you aren’t exercising after a meal like normal to bring it down then what

I’d like to know as well!

Following!

They checked my sugar with a meter and kept me on a carb controlled diet. I took the humalog at night and then would take a short acting insulin if needed after meals.

After birth, sugar levels went back to normal.

They just monitored me for 48 hours taking readings after every meal. If they don’t exceed the limit, no insulin is needed.

At the hospital I work at they do blood sugar check every 2-4 hours until 6cm dilation and then it’s a blood sugar check every hour until baby comes out. The baby will get a heel stick blood sugar every 2-3 hours for 24 hours after birth. (I have GD too!)

@Michelle that’s a lot!

Yes I agree, but better to know what to expect then be in shock by this when you get there.
