Starting solid ideas

Hi all My baby just turned 5 months and he’s been having issues with feeding. HV and feeding advisor suggested for us to start him on solid. I contacted the GP to get a go ahead from them and they said that’s fine. GP suggested to start with a thick food but they suggested one of those boxed porridge/cereal, but I thought those are not good? Also they said banana? I would rather make my own (referring to the boxed porridge), and I heard I should start with vegetables (referring to banana), so any recommendations on what vegetables should I start with? Would you consider Avocado as vegs? Sorry it just that I come from a country that categorise avocado as fruit 😝 TIA

I started with carrots, sweet potato, broccoli, potato, cauliflower and squash as they are all quite thick. I would wait with banana as that can cause reflux to worsen, if baby has reflux. And I would wait with avocado until after 6 months as it can be quite heavy on the tummy sometimes x

Thank you Julia and Dianne 🙏🏼

my daughter loves pumpkin 😂 that would be great as well to start and perfect since it's in season.

Buy the Ella’s kitchen purple book. Normally you start with green iron rich vegetables and work your way to the sweet vegetables such as carrot parsnip etc and then once you’ve completed first tastes you can introduce fruit and combinations, dairy, grains and pulses.. then they recommend meat and fish at 7 months.
