Redundancy and Maternity Protection

I’ve been made redundant but am still covered by the maternity protection that lasts until baby is 18 months. This means since there’s a suitable alternative role my employer should have offered me if over others but they haven’t. They’ve interviewed externally for it and advertised internally and have told me I have to go through the 4 stage application process if I want to be considered for it. This means it is likely automatic unfair dismissal. I’m seeking legal advice but just wondered if anyone had any experience of this?

Im in very similar situation! Because I haven’t been in the organisation for over 2 years I’m not sure if is much that I can do and I’m pregnant with my second baby. The organisation has over 26.000 employees and they haven’t offered me a job! They just want me out and they don’t care. I’m in sick leave atm due to the stress but they are making my life miserable even if in sick leave.

I myself haven't but 4 women from my company have gone through similar scenarios. 3 of them sued the company and got a huge compensation. The fourth didn't sue just had it out with HR who gave her a small compensation. I suggest you talk to an employment lawyer immediately.

@Valentina you are also still protected under employment law so don't let them stress you out! Do consult with an employment lawyer.

@Valentina I think the fact you’re pregnant over rides the fact you haven’t worked for them for 2 years yet. It’s such a horrible thing to be going through. I’m so sorry to hear they are being so difficult about it.

@Yvonne thank you. I’ve spoken to Acas today and I’m contacting a lawyer tomorrow.

You totally are protected unless it’s part of company restructuring and they are making others redundant x

@Kasia they are making others redundant but Acas and the lawyer have said I’m still protected by the maternity protection x

My lawyer said I have low chances to get anything from them lol

@Valentina I’m surprised by that! Mine have said I have a case for unfair dismissal and maternity discrimination since the maternity protection hasn’t been adhered to and you’d be covered by that same maternity protection.
