Fussy toddler!!!

My LO is 15 months old, he’s always been such a good eater but recently he’s become mr independent, he won’t let us feed him (for instance tonight we had rice) he can’t feed himself yet he just ends up throwing it everywhere but he won’t let us feed him either!! I don’t know what to do, every meal time he’s just having a massive tantrum if we feed him as he wants to do it himself, but he can’t 😫😫😫

Have you tried loading a fork or spoon and then handing it to him? My 14 month old can feed himself, he just struggles to put stuff on it so he hands it to me and I give it back full and so on…he does turn it upside down every time which is annoying but for something like rice I just make sure there’s also a sauce so it’s sticky enough to the spoon xx

@April so what happens is I load the food onto the spoon or fork and then when I go to hand it to him he gets all annoyed that I’ve got the cutlery, snatches it out of my hand and then the food just flies everywhere 😂 if it’s something I can stab he does well but with rice and stuff he just throws it all over the room 😂😂

@Tawny ahh yes, we do very often have flying food 🙈 such wonderful stage, I’ve bloody hated weaning! The mess and the waste kills me 😩

@April omg I know I’m the exact same, I had a breakdown today because I’m so sick of spending time making him stuff for him to just kick off and throw things all over the place, it’s such a waste! Especially when he used to demolish anything! 🙄

My boy is almost 15 months he will not feed himself with spoon fork etc even tho I’ve tried to teach him, he also won’t take a spoonful like he used to when he was younger, he will not sit in a highchair literally screams and pushes himself out the straps, he will only eat yoghurt (the suckie ones), cucumber, and crisps. I’m worrying in case he’s not eating enough too 🤯🤯🤯

@Becky oh god I know exactly how you feel, it’s so draining isn’t it, I love him by my god he’s testing me at the moment 😂 Teddy only eats yogurts, wotsits, loads of fruit!! I don’t want to make bad habits but I let him have it because I don’t want him to be hungry 😫

Honestly worries me so much Xxx

Just keep letting him practice on his own, he’ll get the hang of it soon. In the mean time give him things he can eat on his own as well so he doesn’t go hungry

We had this recently, he would do the whole tantrum if i even tried to help guide it in to his mouth and then it would be everywhere, up the walls, on my clothes etc - i just gave up one day and suddenly he has grasped it, don’t get me wrong we still have a lot of food on the floor and he does a few spoonfuls then thinks f*** it im going to eat with my hands 😂 but we have much happier mealtimes now. Have you tried different styles of cutlery? i tried my LO with the short weaning set and he hated it, went to metal and hes fine with it x
