Walking … feeling so deflated

Hi, I’m not really sure what I’m hoping from this post but I’m finding things really hard at the moment. My daughter is 18 months old and is still not walking. I’m trying everything and have gotten advice from the physio. She will cruise and walk holding hands but just face plants when there is nothing to hold on to. I’m finding it mentally really difficult because I feel like a complete failure. All my friend’s babies who are a similar age or slightly younger have been walking for months. I get asked by family and friends all the time if she’s started walking. It’s now to the point where I’m crying most days because I’ve tried really hard to encourage, etc and we’ve made no progress. I feel like I’m completely letting her down. Any advice or words of wisdom from anybody would be great.

No wisdom in regards to helping her walk unfortunately as I haven’t personally been in that position but this post made me so sad 😞 you are anything but a failure you are doing everything in your power to help your little one walk and you are amazing! My niece didn’t walk until 18 months and my SIL felt so similar to you, they also did the physio route and honestly one day she just got up and did it as will yours 🩷 she is perfect and so are you, chin up momma 🩷

Its only natural to feel like youre doing something wrong. You're going to care as a mum and that's okay! That's what makes you a good mum. If it helps, my little one is 18 months and also isn't walking. He cruises, walks holding hands, climbs etc like your little one. I spoke with the healthvisitor and they said no need to worry right now, as long as they're moving in the right direction - cruising, walking holding hands, climbing things etc is not a concern. They said when he is ready it will just click for him and he will just do it. They advised just to just keep on encouraging what he is doing already and giving lots of praise and reinforcement for it. They will do it when they are developmentally ready. Every baby is different. They will get there. Youre not a failure. x

Thank you both. Been feeling so awful about it but your messages have really helped x

My lo didn’t walk till he was 19 months old and still preferred his pushchair up to the age of 3, and my sister didn’t walk till she was 2 and both of them are fine, don’t worry she will walk in time x
