New York!

Hey! Im flying to New York for a week in December i’ll be 26 weeks when i fly out and 27 weeks when i fly back. I’ve looked everywhere and it says I can fly up to 36 weeks but I had a midwife appointment yesterday and she said I can’t fly past 25 weeks as British airways won’t let me! I’m healthy and have no pregnancy complications! It’s also a 10 hour flight!I’ve looked on British airways and it says I can fly up to 36 weeks as well but midwife has now worried me!

You need a fit to fly letter. I flew up until 30 weeks with BA last time but I was stopped at JFK by BA checkin staff. I had to show my letter and really did my heels in. Just remember BA staff overseas are contractors, not BA so they usually don’t know all the airlines guidance. Once they got their manager to read the letter and “assess” me, I was fine and came home normally but they were very cagey about it. I just flew BA at the weekend and I’m 27 weeks myself now, no questions. It’s hit and miss but get your letter.

@Sarah so helpful! Thank you✨ you get your fit to fly letter from your midwife?

@Teleisha I did with baby 1 but this time I got it through my obstetrician. Some people say they got theirs through their GP nurse too. It’s just a quick letter with your details, if you are low risk, when you are due and that they have no concern for you flying. It usually has their contact details too and is on nhs/private clinic letterhead. I’ve been asked for one a few times but I fly often. Some flights no one even looks at me, some airlines are funny but it’s ALWAYS coming home to the UK I get stopped. Like guys, I’m leaving the US, if this baby comes it’ll be in the uk and not your concern 🤣
