Gestational diabetes in early pregnancy

Has anyone here developed gestational diabetes before the typical (weeks 24-28) timeline? How did you find out? I am in week 14 now and I’ve been really thirsty recently and can’t sleep without two full glasses of water by my bedside (pre-pregnancy I would maybe have half a glass, if that). I also go to the bathroom way more often, although that’s been my experience throughout my first trimester. I just called my hospital and asked if I could be tested for it and they said unless I have family history they won’t test me because it’s unlikely I will have it, especially at week 14. Would love to hear any relevant experiences / tips from mothers to be!

I had it in my last pregnancy and I was diagnosed at 5 weeks with this one!! Feel free to message any questions- I’m a veteran! 😂

I didn’t have a family history and didn’t hit any of the usual risk criteria but I was diagnosed early with GD. I would ask again maybe?

At my first midwife appointment when they took my bloods they detected it then but i wasn’t informed till i was 13 weeks

Thank you everyone! Katie - can I ask how you ended up being diagnosed?

@Jamie I’m currently living abroad and the process here is to test fasting blood sugar at your initial blood test appointment around 7/8 weeks so it got picked up on that. I didn’t have any symptoms at all, so it can definitely appear even if there’s no risk factors. Not at all saying that’s definitely what your symptoms mean but I think always worth a second opinion if you’re worried about something! No harm in asking again!
