Hi guys ☺️ Looking for people's experiences with the perinatal mental health team? I have an appointment next week with them next week, last pregnancy I didn't see them so not sure what to expect. I've been with the mental health team before, so wondering if it's similar to that, lots of questions and usually a refferal somewhere. Thankyou

I've never had any personal experience with them but I do work in the mental health profession. Perinatal is a mental health service specifically tailored to pregnant ladies (and after birth). Our hormones as all of us experience, go wild when we are growing a small human but sometimes we need more help than others during this time period. For example I have been diagnosed with HG during my pregnancy and for some women this can basically lead to trauma so perinatal is a service I could use if I felt I needed it. The same applies after giving birth. Our hormones crash and sometimes we need more help whilst our body heals and put itself back together. Also wishing you all the best with the first appointment, they are usually fantastic teams! 😊

I referred myself after my traumatic birth with my son he was born at 26 weeks and we were in hospital for 10 weeks in NICU. Tbh the initial assessment I had was awful but I’m also a social worker so I’m not sure if that had something to do with it. Also by the time I reached out for help I was actually feeling much better in myself

I got automatically referred in both my pregnancy’s because of my past and my appointment is ironically tomorrow. I see a consultant a couple of times in pregnancy that just asks how my mental health is makes sure I’m okay. Then perinatal mental health they just assess you make you fill out one of those forms where you choose like 0-3. Ask how you’ve been feeling if you have any concerns they ask about your past mental health issues and they assess whether they think you need to keep going back to them with my son I did the first appointment and they said they didn’t think I would benefit from them and it would be better for me to continue my weekly therapy and see the consultant at the hospital every couple of weeks. It is very similar to when I was assessed to see what therapy would work best for me! It’s nice having the extra support too sometimes!

Thankyou everyone 🥰🥰 xx
