What’s everyone feeding their babies?

My son is 13 months old and it seems impossible to get him to eat anything that isn’t puréed. He will eat toast, soreen (malt loaf) baby snacks/melts, bananas and baked beans but anything else I offer him just gets thrown on the floor but I feel he’s not getting enough nutrients from these basic and rather bland foods. I feel like I’ve exhausted all options, I’ve eaten with him and tried that way and even offered things off my plate but he just spits it out or throws it everywhere. He used to love eating vegetables and fruit but now he just throws it. He also has 2 bottles of milk a day - one for morning nap and one before bedtime (cows milk has been unsuccessful so he’s still on Kendamil) Any advice/help would be very much appreciated!

Not sure how to help, but my boy is doing the exact same thing. He’s 13 months on the 12th

No help either other than we’re in the same boat! Little interest in different food textures. I just keep offering and hope that it clicks at some point!

@Jess thank you! Makes me feel like it’s not me that’s doing something wrong so it’s nice to know this is quite normal xx

Hi I’m glad I’ve found other people going through the same! I’ve been so stressed… all my daughter will eat is scrambled eggs, berries and yoghurt 😬 I’ve literally tried all the above mentioned ^ she just doesn’t want it 😣 also on 2 bottles of Kendamil!

@Abbie it’s so difficult isn’t it? I suppose when they are ready they will eventually try more things! I’ve just been stressing myself out with it and worried about if he’s getting enough xx

Yeahh definitely! I remember when she first started weaning, I was so excited… that faded fast 🫠 I know, I worry about my daughter not eating enough… but she’s a little chunky butt, so she must be 😂

@Abbie yeah me too!! Now I get fed up of coming up with new meals to try and then them all ending up on the floor - the dogs seem to not mind it though lol😂 yeah, surely if they were hungry they would eat it. I’m just hoping he starts to show interest in other things so he gets more of a variety but toast definitely seems to be his ‘safe’ food but there’s just not a lot of substance to it. Xx

Yes I even bought the weaning books 😂 now I just pick food on what’s likely to make the least stains when it ends up on the carpet 💀 yeah I hope it’ll click soon… me and her dad are real foodies, so this is hard having a kid that will only eat scrambled eggs 😂

@Abbie hahah, yeah I do the same lol! It just goes everywhere! I did buy a floor mess mat thing from Poundland but he throws it so far it rarely ends up on it! Haha, me & my husband are the same. It’s just hard when you make so much effort to make a nice meal for them - started to question if it’s just our cooking lol😂😂

Is he on a multi vitamin? Might help your worry of nutrition whilst navigating the fussy stage he’s in. Mine can be so hit and miss. He is also a snack lover but quite fussy in terms of what and when he will choose to eat!

Are you feeding him or doing baby led food? Give him choices on his plate. So one strip of toast, one small slice of cheese and sliced strawberries. When he eats one replace it with another. Try dry food first, strips of chicken, sliced carrot, slices banana, It takes patience, I’ve always let my little one eat on her own and in which ever order she wants but she will finish the plate Worth a try, good luck x

I’ve also made mince chicken and courgette meat balls which are easy to pick up and eat. Potatoes waffles are a cheat but they work wonders Also veggie fingers I find they are easy for the little ones to pick up and eat… please make sure they are cool enough to eat x

Once you get the little one eating, you can introduce the saucer foods, pasta with sauce but leave some garlic bread in his hands so he takes a spoonful from you but then has the bread to nibble on in between

Just little things that worked for me, hope it helps

@Kiran thank you for all of your advice, will definitely be taking it on board! I have been doing a mixture of baby led weaning and spoon feeding depending on whether he eats what I gave him initially. X

They grow so quick and want independence so soon xx

Have you tried eggy bread/french toast? It’s a similar texture to toast and would get some eggs in him! Also if you’re worried about nutrients maybe try mashing some kidney beans on toast for some iron? I think at this age it’s normal for them to be fussy and throw their food, but his milk should make up for anything extra he needs

I’m lucky that my girl will eat absolutely anything, but I think just laying food out of her and letting her explore definitely helped.
