Show your support

Super dependent on the child and your circumstances. Your child should be able to show some interest in using the potty, whether it be watching others, indicating to you when they’ve used the bathroom, or hiding to go to the bathroom. Contextually, if you are using a daycare, for example, the daycare should be equipped to support the potty training. Some won’t until child turns a certain age. Just don’t want the daycare to interfere with the process! Generally, kids are potty trained by about 3 years old, so I voted for 2 years to start the process of child is showing those indicators. If not, there’s no rush.

It's different for every kid, I would say. Watch for signs that your LO is ready. Remain patient. Bc it can be difficult for some.

We tried super early (18m) & our ped told us that was unrealistic for most kiddos! We tried again (30m) & she was showing signs of being ready. It was way easier once we figured out when she was ready! Some questions to check off are if your little asks to go potty or has a dry diaper for more than 4 hours. Overall, it’s just important to be potty trained by time preschool starts, so by 3ish. We still use pull ups for bedtime though!

I mean, these are some very specific poll options 😂 We potty trained when our son was ready. For him that was somewhere between 2.5 and almost 3.

When they show interest and readiness. Mine showed interest occasionally starting at 18 months but he wasn't really ready to comprehend until 2.5yo

We started at 2.5 years, she was ready x

We started just before she turned 3 and within 2 days she'd cracked it. It's more when they are ready than an actual age

Start, if they show interest keep going, if they put up a fight, step back (if younger than 3) 3 or older start building the habit, it is a habit so they more you try and stick to it, the more chances they learn

My wee girl is 2+1month. We tried her over the last few days and it was a disaster she wasn’t ready at all. Going to try again in a few months. My eldest was 2.5 and was potty trained in a week

I'm waiting until I think she's ready. I'd say she's not far off. She knows what a toilet is and what it's for. She sometimes tells us when she's been no2 but sometimes it's just to postpone bedtime lol

We’re loosely training now with my 20mo. She used the potty successfully 2x, is in training pants most of the time bc she’s constantly taking off her diapers and sometimes will go “oh no, potty!” After she already used her diaper lol it’s mainly dependent on your baby and if they’re showing signs of readiness

Mine was 3 we tried before he wasnt ready once we did it at 3 he did amazing i can count on the one hand how many accidents he has had x

We potty trained 2 weeks before my daughter turned 2! The pee was easy. Poop was a bit more difficult. My husband and I were just talking about how happy we are that our daughter is potty trained (she 2 and 2 months now). Saving lots of money not buying diapers! We read the book “Oh Crap” and it gives indicators to look for to tell if your child is ready.

When you and baby feel ready. All these arbitrary numbers don't mean much. After 2 it will be harder because if it's not their idea it's a power struggle. If you do it before 18mobths they're more inclined, but may not have all the motor skills needed to do it independently. And if you wait till 4-5tgen they may not be able to goto school.

I started with my daughter at 12 months, she was good to go by 15 months or so.

When the child is ready. If you start, you gotta stick with it and be consistent

Mine was 2 years 10 months as it was a very quick and stress free process. I think under 2 is unrealistic for most and you will end up with months and months of it.

When she’s ready

So there’s Elimination communication which you read babys cues and you take them- from 0-1yr. Then “potty training” comes at 1-2. Coz they’re most likely using a potty. Then “toilet training” at 2-3. Coz usually it’s an insert/step on the toilet that’s used at that age. So 3 stages of “training”. Do it when it’s convenient for you and see how it goes. Sometimes they surprise you and pick it up real quick, others fight it and aren’t ready. I trained my girls at 19m, and 22m. My boy, was 2y3m so just under 2.5. He trained day in a week and nights a week later. Having said that, he was doing all poops on the toilet at 8-12m, we were in lockdown so I had the time. When lockdown opened up again, I was taking him out a lot so put diapers (cloth diapers) back on him as it wasn’t convenient. I did it when I can, like I was at my friends/mum/sisters and toilet was just there. When out, I didn’t even bother anymore and he pooped in diaper again.
