How to get baby to eat when unwell

Hey, my lo has had a fever for the last couple of days, with a red throat and red ears. He’s not been sleeping well, and has eaten barely any solids yesterday and so far today. He’s not interested in drinking much either. Does anyone have any tips on how to get him to eat or drink more? Thank you 🙏

My little girl has been full of cold and cough the past few days, she really went off her food and milk, think I just resorted to little and often and kept her water levels up. It’s so hard as you know it’ll help them but she was slapping her bottles away but she liked fruit pouches and yoghurts. They’ll soothe the throat

It might not be for you, but some people say they will eat a little while watching tv, could be worth a try even for ten mins? And it baby has a favourite like yoghurt or fruit pouches or even some baby snacks I would just give them. You could also try water in the calpol syringe to make it fun, thats what I do

My little man is on the mend now he was so unwell, I had to sing to him and try to make him giggle this worked but I was exhausted 3 mouthfuls in but it worked x

Thank you both so much. Trying little and often but he rejects more than he consumes. I’ve also tried eating in front of the tv, toys on the high chair, feeding milk in bed to no avail. I think his throat is too sore. I’ll speak to my GP. Thanks again!

Could you try freezing some fruit or yoghurt or even formula/breastmilk and see if he will take it as a lolly? Hopefully he will be back to normal soon. My baby once had a stomach bug and couldnt kept anything down for 4 days, I was sooo worried but she made up for it when better, just keep an eye out for wet nappies ❤️

If suggest giving plenty of calpol and nurefen My son who's now 5years gets tonsillitis alot always has done and everytime he does he goes off food and drink and unfortunately you can't force them to eat and drink Just worry about mainly fluids soft foods like yoghurt and try not to stress as easy it is for me to say I know but you calm will help him be calm about it all Also dream feed bottles might help at least his getting fluid thay way and won't dehydrate

My baby has been unwell recently too, I found that he’d eat soft foods such as mash potatoes, yoghurt and soup. You could also try to give water rich food if possible like broth, watermelon and cucumber to keep him hydrated. I hope he feels better soon!

@CeeCee such a good idea I’ll try this!!!

Thank you so much everyone I really appreciate it 💖
