Hi! I had an episiotomy & 2nd degree tear. I was so scared to shave again, I just sort of went really slow & stayed away from the stitches after about a week or so as pubic hair get so itchy if you leave it doesn’t it? My first few showers I washed with just water & then started using non fragranced soap again a few days later & made sure I was completely rinsed. Make sure to pat dry completely! Everyone is different though so just do what’s best for you & when you’re comfortable to. I don’t think there’s a right or wrong, just keep the wound clean to avoid infection. Hope this helps! X

Yes I’ve just used hot water since labour, but now I’m on week 4, wasn’t sure when the right time is to start using other stuff. My stitches have been checked and my midwife said they were healing really well just forgot to ask the questions. Didn’t know if I had to wait until my check at 8weeks as thats another 4 weeks to wait! Want to avoid anything to cause an infection Xx

I didn’t wait, maybe give them a call if you’re worried? I think I googled if what I use was safe for stitches/wounds at the time xx

hey im in the exact same boat i am 4 weeks post partum and have a second degree tear, was wondering the exact same thing. its so itchy . is it normal to be little red also? i think the itch is causing this. i tryed to have a look with a mirror and i cant see where the stitches are

The wound Itching is good, it’s a sign it’s healing & redness is expected, it’ll go down eventually. Just keep it clean & once the swelling goes down you’ll be able to see a lot more clearer 😊 xx

I had an episiotomy and I just use femfresh and have had no issues x

around the vulva is red and itchy is that normal?

6 weeks, just used water till then, and the midwife spritz spray on my pad and the peri bottle when going toilet. After 6 weeks I was fully healed and felt ready in myself to shave down there, use products etc. it gets really itchy after a few weeks and you don’t want to disturb the healing process.

I’m 3 weeks pp and still only using water and haven’t shaved yet. I’m going to see how I feel at week 4 but 6 weeks seems to be the rule for most things it seems 😅

I’m 4 weeks pp and I shaved (very carefully and didn’t go near my stitches) at 2 weeks pp. I’m using a fragrance free soap and just being really careful x

@Morgan I’m a month after I’ve used non fragrenced soap since 2 weeks I’m now fully healed. Healing takes time but as long as you pat dry and make sure fully rinsed you should be okay x

@Morgan honestly I don’t say this to scare you but I would wait until till your completly healed I gave birth 4 weeks ago and had a second degree tear and for three weeks straight now they have been infected and it’s so so painfull and makes life with a newborn so hard
