Midwife

How often do you speak with your midwife? Only at your set appointments, or have you had additional phone calls as well? I’m 24 weeks, and have never met or spoken with my midwife (other people have covered her appointments, she doesn’t answer her phone). I’m wondering if this is normal, or if you have more frequent contact with your midwife? Can I request to change midwife?

My midwife gives me appointments to attend but I call her when I need anything I have her contact number so if I’m concerned or worried or have any questions I call or her message her x

I speak to my midwife weekly, I have checks every 2-3 weeks due to growth off baby, but I have regular contact, she has also been to my house for visits and checks too. Maybe ask to change midwife, I personally would! ☺️

I mean if your not happy with your midwife then yes you can request to change your midwife .

I speak to my midwife at my appointments. If I have questions between appointments, I ring the phone number (it’s a community midwife centre) and whichever midwife answers the phone is happy to answer my question. I guess I could request to speak to my own midwife specifically whenever I have a question but I really don’t see the point for just a question or enquiry anyone could answer. Seems a bit OTT. But yes, I see and speak to the same person at all my actual appointments.

She was on holiday for two of my appointments, I met her on third. Spoken a few times by phone. I have a range of numbers, so I ring their centre and the others are pretty good at answering queries, too if I really need advice. She’s pretty good at returning phone calls though it may take a while. I’ve had no urgent issues and she gave me a thorough examination when I did see her. This app has been a great source of help, too. So, yeah - not too much with the mid-wife outside of appointments but uncomplicated pregnancy.

my first pregnancy I had the same midwife all the way through, texted occasionally and answered any questions ect but this time around I haven’t met my assigned midwife at all I don’t really mind this time though because I know what to expect i suppose I just go to the appointments for 10 minutes and I’m sent on my way, just waiting for the big day really🤣 but you can absolutely request someone else if you’re not happy, you have every right to do so!

I’ve never met mine She never returns my calls, never spoke to her x

I just speak to my midwife at appointments but I’ve not had any issues. Except at the beginning which I ended up contacting EPAU.

Only at appointments, spoke to her once over text. With first pregnancy my midwife was shocking never replied to me I wish I asked to change. So if you feel like you're being let down just ask to swap!

My midwife is on maternity leave so I’ve had various different cover midwives and never see the same one. I only see them at appointments I’ve never spoken to them otherwise. Luckily I’ve had no reason to call them either, even if I did I don’t know who I’d speak to😂

I have mine on WhatsApp so I can message her whenever I have a question. She only responds when on shift. I am high risk and under the high risk team so I think that’s the only reason I have this type of access

My midwife went on maternity leave. I have a new one but I'm not sure if she has a different contact number. I've only seen her for appointments and nothing else. When I was worried about something I contacted triage.

From my understanding UCL London doesn’t have a set midwife so in my case I only see a midwife at my appointments . Which is frustrating I know some hospitals you have a assigned midwife
