How do we know what baby likes and doesn't. It's costing me a small fortune for her to take a mouthful and refuse any more for it then to go in the bin the next day just attempted cheese pie and took 2 spoons made some horrible faces then refused more. Tried her with her normal porridge and she scoffed the lot. Am I introducing flavours too quick. She's 7 months

I’d defo give her a teeny bit of whatever you’re having. You’ll save a fortune and it’ll take a lot of the stress out of trying to get her onto solids as you’ll quickly establish what she likes

You could freeze bits for another try at a later date? Xx

I used to make granola dust (Jamie Oliver recipe) basically porridge but with more range & then add in different flavours with different yoghurts. It’s totally normal. Some fussy babies prefer to just feed themselves. x

We just gave small amounts of whatever we were having (as long as not too much salt, sugar, or honey etc). Started with whatever veg we were having with our meals and moved on from there. We didn't do purees at all, they just quickly got used to the food we were eating

I have twins and neither of them would take any more than a spoonful of any of the Ella’s Kitchen pouches. They enjoyed the fruit ones but dinner pouches were an absolute nope! Ended up switching to Heinz jars which they enjoyed before we moved on to solids 😊

Don’t use pouches. Just give them a little of what you’re having (without added sugar or salt) and mash down for them. It will save you money in the long run. They only need small tastes of things just now. They won’t have a full meal at 7m.

She has full bowls of her porridge. I'm personally choosing not to give her what I have cause I'm a terrible eater and don't want that to go onto her too. I don't think hv will appreciate pizza, chippy's and anything with cheese as baby's first meals haha. I have given her some macaroni when I had that but it's not an everynight meal. Pouches are more convenient for me and I made this decision to have her on purees to wean. I don't want to do blw and I really don't think we would enjoy it and I want it to be as enjoyable as possible for us both

My daughter also started off loving porridge and eating full bowls every morning! I made my own purees at the start and froze portions although even then I ended up not using them. While making dinner for myself I'd just boil a veggie and sometimes some beans/lentils and mash them up for her, just enough for a portion or 2. I think she started really enjoying her pouches around 9months. I also had some lolly molds - the ones that you can put fruit in for teething babies to chew - and if she didn't finish a pouch I'd make it into a lolly.

Hey! Everyone seems to have made BLW into a scary thing that’s really different to traditional weaning, but traditional weaning was always about purées then moving on to thicker textures while also providing finger foods! Why don’t you try making some purées, it will be 10x cheaper and you could also give a finger food along with it easily. It’s for their oral development and learning to chew. You could for example boil carrots and mash them into a puree while also giving one stick on the side, same with lots of other veg. Jo wicks has got a ‘wean in 15’ recipe book where all the meals only take 15 minutes to make, it will be good for broadening her tastes and maybe even yours if you’re a picky eater! xx

I would try single flavours first and then move onto heavier and more complex stuff like the cheese pie. It could be too much for her at the moment.

You want to start off with veggies and good fats. Introducing fruits too early messes up their taste buds so all they want is sugar. I’d make veggie mash in bulk but add things like butter or ghee as babies need healthy fats.
