Screen time

Is there any bad benefits of screen time. I don’t sit my little one in front of it for hours. But if I need to eat, get myself ready or do a bit of tidying I will put dancing fruits or ms Rachel on for her. I personally don’t think it’s too bad and she loves it but I know there’s a lot of bad comments on it. But would love to know why.

It's because they become fixated on it in a way that triggers their adrenal system (adrenaline/fight & flight) and whilst their brain is in that state, their brain can't do anything else such as growing and developing. That's what I've found out anyway so I'm avoiding SSS before 2 in my home but no shade to others who do 😘

https://scholar.google.com/scholar?hl=en&as_sdt=0%2C5&q=Screen+time&btnG= If you use Google Scholar then it comes up with acaedemic publishers and properly cited studies. There's so much stuff on screen time. Using it for a little bit is fine as needed but it does absolutely nothing for brain development and can (when given more often) cause low attention span, tantrums, virtual autism, social issues and just general potatoeness, all proven by my nephews

You will see from the studies mentioned above that actually quite a few are based on school age children so hold no relevance. One study also states “parents castigate themselves for allowing their children “too much” screen time, without much critical examination of what this means. We argue that these and similar time- or exposure-based guidelines rely on an insufficient evidence base, and lead parents to prioritise restrictive forms of screen time that neither serve the purpose of keeping children safe, nor of helping them towards opportunities”. Basically as long as your baby doesn’t spend 12 hours a day sitting one inch from a tv screen you are absolutely fine. Do what you need to do and really don’t worry about it at all, parenting is hard enough without worrying about statistics and apparent evidence based studies x

Love a bit of dancing fruits over here! Used sparingly but it really has got us out of a few Pickles whilst out and about x

I dont sit my little one in front of a screen for hours but if I need to shower I do whip the dancing fruits out, it’s hard when your partner goes back to work and I can’t listen to him scream because he can’t see me but dancing fruits for 20 mins whilst I shower and get dressed works for me x

I don’t know the details of screen time but my baby has a little bounce chair so she goes in that and I carry her to whatever room I’m in so she can see me. Even if I have a shower she just chills in it in the bathroom. I think as long as they’re being entertained they’re okay, personally I only have the tv on if I’m watching it with her - Bluey is a particular favourite 😂
