Couples counselling

Has anyone ever had couples counselling? If so, how did you find it? I've been with my partner for over 5 years, but we can't seem to communicate well at all. I have a lot of resentment over many things that we can't seem to resolve/agree on. I love him so don't want to give up on our relationship, if anything for the sake of our daughter, but I can't cope with the mental stress our arguments cause.

Haven’t personally tried it but I have a friend who loves going. She and her husband have gotten to a point where they go for check ins whenever they feel they need it. She did say it can take some shopping around to find a therapist who is a good fit Hopefully you can work through this!

I did it for a few months with my husband when we were going thru a rough patch. It wasn't as helpful as I thought it would be, maybe it was our particular counselor, but it kind of felt like grammar school when you're at the principal's office lol. It made us realize that we need to be adults and figure things out like adults. Things have been better since then.

I've gone to a few sessions and personal sessions. A lot of employers have what's called an employee assistance program. My EAP gives me 5 couples counseling sessions and 5 personal sessions for free. And if you don't vibe with the counselor, they will let you change to a different counselor for free. I've seen 2 different counselors now. the first one I didn't quite agree with, and I felt like he was in it for the money, but my second counselor is great. I would highly recommend couples therapy. It makes it a safe place for us to talk about our issues and very much so an eye opener.

I 100% recommend it. My husband and I have been going for 3 years now and it’s the best decision we ever made.

I’m actually a therapist and do couples counseling. I’ve seen it work for couples but it really depends on the mindset of both the people in the relationship and wanting to put the work in to make changes.
