I'm similar to Alana (I have severe hypermobility, though no EDS diagnosis) and they were concerned about effectiveness of anaesthesia on me so I had a phone appointment with an anaesthetist. Also my mum was horrifically allergic to general anaesthetic (it stopped her heart) so they wanted to ask questions and have a bit of a plan for worst case scenario.
I’m wondering the same! I mentioned it to my midwife the other day and she had no idea why I’d been given the appointment. She said it’s usually only for planned c-sections which I’m not having. The only extra care I’m getting is for high BMI so not sure if that’s it?
I have lupus, an autoimmune condition. it's in remission but I'm considered high risk. I didn't realise that is the reason I've been offered the appointment but maybe it's a questionnaire that they want to do in advance when your high risk in case we're too unwell in labour then?
@Alana okay thank you so we don't have to make a decision as such, it's more informative for nearing labour?
@Luci thank you. Thats helpful to know x
@Hannah yeah for me it was more just informing me of all the options, and talking through what would happen if one didn't work etc etc x
Is there any reason you're having an anaesthetist appointment? I don't think it's standard. I had one because i have Ehlers danlos syndrome and local anaesthetic doesn't always work on me so they were concerned if I needed epidural it might not work. Anyway they just talked through all the different options , epidural, spinal, general etc etc. Xx
