Medication or surgery?

Got told on Friday that my pregnancy isn’t progressing and to look out for bleeding and pain. I haven’t had either and I have an appointment on Friday where they said if there’s still no pain or bleeding, they may need to intervene. I’ve read a few horror stories about taking the medication and that the surgery is preferred. Has anyone experienced either and could give some advice as I’m so scared and the anxiety is eating me up. 😞

Sorry your going through this ❤️. I went through this August 2023. I had also heard about the horror stories regarding the medication route so I opted for the surgery route. I think it was the best decision for me. I went into hospital as a day patient (arrived at 7am) and was called for my surgery within a couple of hours. When I woke up after surgery there was no pain. Although i was offered pain medication which I didn't need thankfully. When I was discharged in the evening I was discharged with paracetamol and codeine. Again I didn't take them because I wasn't in pain. There also was minimal bleeding for me after (about a day and a half) and this wasn't heavy bleeding. I was told to do a pregnancy test around 2 weeks after to check that I had no more hcg levels rising. Then my normal period came around 6 weeks after the procedure. Hope this helps. Sending prayers 🙏. I know it's a very anxious time. Hopefully you have family who can support you during this time xx

I took the medication twice and it still failed and I had to have the surgery anyway but months down the line I would recommend the surgery it was nowhere near as scary as it seems and recovery was smooth Sorry for your loss

Have they not found a heart beat at all? Like do they know for sure or is it just not going according to plan

I took the medication and it wasn’t that bad. There was a lot of waiting for it to start, and then I had period like cramps which got really bad, but a hot water bottle eased them. I then passed the clots on the toilet and it was then just like having a period after that. I would opt for the medication again.

@Mirail I’m so sorry you went through this too. Thank you so much for your comment it’s made me think I should go down this route. Did you ask to be put to sleep or were there options?

@Chelsea oh gosh I keep hearing about the medication not working. I think it confirms my decision. Thank you x

@Gabrielle had two scans a week apart and there was no growth. So they’re pretty sure? But I think they’ll do another just to be 100% on Friday and then discuss the next steps. But they did say ultimately it’s over.

@Danielle ahh right. How long did the really bad pain last?

They never gave me the option to be awake, but to be fair I wouldn't have wanted to be awake. But that's my personal choice. If you get the choice, do whatever you feel is best for you.

Maybe a couple of hours. I was able to be at home so it was nice to be in my own surroundings and with family.
