GD test prepping?

Hey all- what are we doing to make sure we’re staying on the course for the GD test? I’m trying to eat as normally as possible but with my last pregnancy, I ended up eating a little bit of higher protein for like a month leading up to getting the test. Either way, people said I’d be fine(I was😅). But I just wanted to make sure we were as good as good can be(I know altering diet etc, you’re not supposed to do, but I was nervous😅)… I’m not doing that this time and just trying to maintain what I normally eat and not add any extras(ie go cray on the sugar lol which is hard this time cause sugary stuff is my biggest craving this pregnancy lol). If anything, I’m cutting any additional sugary things out aside from my two things (I have 1 sugary coffee drink/day, and maybe some chocolate and coconut covered almonds for snacks/if the day was a challenging one with my oldest(toddler) but other than that, I’m like, no girl! lol😅) Again, I’m just super nervous. Anyone else prep for their GD test ahead of time? 😅 (I take the test this Thursday😅)

This is my first pregnancy but I was a pretty balanced eater prior! I just took my test last week and just made sure I ate high protein/lower carb/sugar like normal in the couple days prior to the test. My mom had GD with me and my brother so I’m interested to see what my results will be.

I’m doing nothing 😂 got it on Monday my mum had it with my sister so it’s 50/50 for me I think just eating as you normally would is your best bet don’t want to effect the result in anyway good luck for your test! Are you taking your 28 blood form with you as I’m not sure if they will do them all together saves me going to two different blood draws

@Danielle that’s what I basically did with my first! I ended up being fine- much luck to you girl!!❤️❤️🫶 🫶

@Emma I feel this lol. This time around, I have a toddler to chase after so reeeeaaallly trying to make sure that what I have isn’t too crazy off of what I normally eat(my rule this time is what I eat, my Bubby boy eats- so it’s been pretty good accountability so far lol) but those nap times where I’m in the kitchen….and there’s magically a thing of cinnamon grahams staring me down…😅 I gotta be SO strong to not just eat the whole thing lolol😅🤦‍♀️ Oooo that’s smart about the blood work! I should ask about that this time around! I know they tested just for GD last time so, imma ask

I never really do anything beforehand. I’m not 100% clean eater, but I try to always get in my fruits and veggies… getting enough protein in is my biggest struggle. My midwife just recommended me to eat a high protein breakfast the day of my test, fast for an hour before and that was it. This is also my 4th baby and I’ve never had it before, so i was less likely to have it this time around as well. But I was happy to get it over with, for sure.

I didn’t change my diet, but I started fasting at midnight instead of 2-3 hours beforehand like my OB recommended (my appointment was at 1:40, I just went to bed and woke up late)

@Ashley did you get your result hun? They did all my bloods the same day so saved me going for more tests all came back normal and no diabetes for me 👍 hope yours went well xxx

@Emma Yes mam!! I have to say I do nooot recommend doing the 3 hour glucose test. lol So, I ended up failing the 1 hour glucose(blood work came back absolutely fine though!) test. Doc ordered it in that I get the 3 hour test(turned out to be 4 hours cause they take your fasting blood draw first and run it to make sure it’s within range of where it needs to be in order to proceed with the test- it was totally fine) done within the next 5 days. I also had to cut out most sweet things (fruits included), low carb, and high protein for 2-3 days prior to the test(thanks doc lol)…and then fast for 12 hours beforehand. I scheduled my test for first thing in the am so all I had to do was wake up, drink a lil bit of water(sips of water is what I was told I could do), and go in. They did my first draw about an hour after I got there(they were busy that day)….oooo man. I was so hungry. It came back great so they then gave me 100mg of basically SUPER SWEET “flat orange Fanta”. I was able to chug

it under the 5 mins they gave me, but I couldn’t stop. If I did, I probably wouldn’t have finished it. But it wasn’t bad. After that, they had me sit and wait. I could stand for a bit, and stretch, but not walk around too much. I ended up each consecutive hour after I had the drink and then a blood draw just sitting and watching a show on my phone or reading. It was fine sitting down but oh wow did I get a bit light headed when I would stand or walk for a sec..0.0(just to make sure the blood kept flowing really lol) I got there at around 8:30am…..and ended around 1:44pm. If you can, I do NOT recommend it lol I kept texting my medical lab technician sister like, “does this result look okay? I feel like this, is that normal?” lol OH- BIG TIP- DO NOT. I repeat. DO NOT. Eat whatever you want directly afterwards. Taper. It!!! About an hour and a half afterwards I had a HUGE sugar crash. And whatever was in my tummy (a bagel sandwich)…yeahh I felt violently ill for like 20 mins but stilll.

I recommend eating like a bird afterwards because the sugar crash..I thought I was gonna die….and then I wanted a biiiig nap. lol But, overall, you get your results instantly(or within an hour), you are gonna feel soooo hungry and thirsty, and overall, I personally “passed with flying colors” from what my OB said. So, living proof that it IS possible to fail your 1 hour, and completely be fine with your 3 hour glucose test.:) I feel so much better overall about how this all went.💕
