Baby led weaning and weight gain

I’ve read that with BLW you have to trust the process and it can take up to 8 weeks for baby to get the hang of. My baby is small for his age.. with BLW he’s not eating as much food as he would if I exclusively spoon fed him. I do puree up some food and give it to him but never force if he doesn’t want. I’m worried that he’s not going to gain weight and he is already small. I’d like to know if anyone has been successful with BLW and have healthy (chunky) babies?

My boys around the 90th percentile and we went straight in with BLW. At the start they don’t swallow that much, but it’s all about consistency. For us personally, it wasn’t long before he was used to it and eating everything. I will add however that we never followed a ‘guide’ with it. We didn’t do one taste a day or anything like that. He literally just had what we had from the beginning. I went in with offering something for all 3 meals too. By 8 months he was eating 3 good meals a day. He’s now 14 months and will still eat anything and everything x

My kiddo isn't chunky. She was never a big eater (still isn't), never ate the amounts you'd expect, but her weight class is still in the 58th-ish percentile. If doctor isn't worried about growth, I wouldn't be either. Babies can be healthy and thriving without necessarily being "chunky". If you're really worried about weight there is nothing inherently wrong with spoon-feeding once in awhile - it won't ruin anything. Baby can still learn to eat even if he gets meals from a spoon every so often. His main source of nutrition before 1 is milk, anyway, so food is just a sidebar until the age of 10, 11 months or so.

Yeah i give my baby whatever i ate. At first puree, then gave him veggies and fruits to hold, now were chewing rice lol. I still dont trust him using his own spoon, even though he fights me cuz it gets soo messy (hes in his thrusting everything v phase)
