No mat leave from employment, just allowence

I’m really really worried how I will survive with those first 6 weeks (90%). How did you ladies survived if same situation? I have few hundredths saved but not much and paying mortgage. How did you lower your standards or shopping differently. I just can’t imagine and it drives me crazy. Is there anything I can apply for ? She is due end of jan 2025 . But I won’t be able to use the 30 hours childcare because she won’t be 9 months in September. Does anybody know how that works? Will I have to wait till sep 2026 ? I really struggling and I’m so depressed.

I can't help with the money part but in terms of the childcare then she is eligible the term after she is 9 months, so should get it in January 2026. You can get Tax Free childcare from any age though so long as you meet the criteria.

Not knowing where you are, tons of community diaper, baby clothes, & furniture giveaways and month. Also don’t be too modest to take advantage of food giveaways. I used to but after the babies…they are a life saver!

It’s hard. Buy things off Vinted or fb marketplace if you can. Most people will gift you clothes anyway. People in your social circle might have things they can pass on to you. Speak to citizens advice to see if you are entitled to any benefits. Make sure you apply for child benefit asap. You can also make money by opening bank accounts, but this can affect your credit rating. Sell things you don’t need.

You can apply for universal credit and they pay 85% of child care costs if you're eligible.

Just getting out of this now, was told I wouldn't qualify for stat mat leave and enhanced mat pay only mat allowance because I haven't been there for 26 weeks into my qualifying week. But turns out I do, they just miscalculated it. Couldn't afford to take more than 2 weeks off and then 4 weeks on annual leave, so can only imagine how you're feeling. Can I ask how long you've been with your employer?

Go to ur local dss or dhr hrs office whatever ur equivalent would be and tell them the situation and ask what they can do for u. Just what uve said so far, u can get WIC, ebt, daycare assistance. They also do rent/ mortgage assistance I forget what it’s called but there’s one for power bill too, and there’s all kinds of classes and shit they can get u in for free cribs car seats pumps etc
