gestational diabetes

I’ve just had my 20 week scan and i’m booked in for gestational diabetes test as baby’s tummy is measuring large. Has anyone has the same but it was fine and you didn’t have GD? This pregnancy i’ve really been good with my diet, lots of walking and exercise. Feel bit gutted that i’ve tried so hard to be good and healthy for my baby

Hi there, my BMI is slightly over so I was automatically booked for a gestational diabetes test and on my 20 week scan they said the same about my baby's tummy that it was slightly larger. I've got my glucose tolerance test on 22nd October so I will let you know how mine goes ☺️

I had to do a tolerance test (not the drink, but 5 days of finger pricking instead) and had 2 results just above the norm. As a result I have had to continue testing 4 times a day, and have tried to lower my carb intake because of it. Try not to feel guilty or gutted as it is not something you can always prevent, you may have some triggers because of family history for example. It is because of your placenta that GD occurs, not because you're not taking care of yourself or baby. Even if it is GD, the midwives should give you guidance on how to deal with it. Take care xx

Both my babies have had 90th percentile tummies and I’ve not had GD either time xx

i had to do one recently as at a scan to check placenta position the baby was measuring larger, but i didn’t have GD. I felt the same about the idea of having it

If it is GD, just know that it’s not anything you have done in terms of eating healthy and exercise before hand. It’s hormonal. Common misconception that women cause it to themselves by not being active and health and very sad as they hold a lot of guilt because of that when it’s actually out of their control

Thank you ladies!

Diet has nothing to do with GD, it’s from the placenta function, your placenta can stop insulin working correctly from sending out hormones. However, I measured 2 weeks over from stomach measurements and I did not have GD, you could simply just be carrying more fluid than others which is quite normal in a lot of pregnancies x

I believe gd is caused by hormones or something like that so it’s not your fault even if you do have it, but my baby was measuring large and I did have gd but I just wanted to say even if you do have it it will all be ok! It sounds scary and totally unmanageable but once you get the hang of what u can eat it’s fine!
