How long to finish bottle?

My baby takes ages to finish her bottle. It can take her an hour to finish 5oz and she stops and starts a lot. She’s 10 weeks and is on size 1 MAM teats. I have tried her on the size 2’s but she coughs and splutters and it comes out the sides of her mouth. Just looking for advice / similar experiences. Pic for attention!

Mine takes less than 10 minutes most of the time. Is it formula or BM?

I’m having the same issue! My baby turns 13 weeks on Wednesday and used to drain 5oz bottles so we upped them to 6oz approx when she was 10 weeks? But since she’s completely changed and takes an hour to drink it or sometimes she won’t drink it before it’s out of time and needs to be thrown away. I got her weighed yesterday, she has put weight on but has however dropped percentile because she’s not putting enough on. The midwife there suggested me putting her onto a 3 size teat and pace feeding her so it doesn’t spill out her mouth / she doesn’t splutter So you could maybe try the 2 teats pace feeding and see if that helps her?x

My baby did this and it was the teats. We use Tommee tippee bottles but I got him the vari flow teats and he has been great on them ever since.

My baby can be like this too then other days she will drink it really quickly. If I try and make her drink before she is ready she just lets it all dribble out of her mouth 😩 she mostly only had 4oz still with the occasional 5

Hello, I am posting in solidarity as well. My son has always taken ages to finish a bottle from day 1 due to not being able to latch properly to bottle or breast and takes a max of 120mls in one go. Some babies are just snackers, which is tricky as we feel we are always feeding them. Like a poster above he ends up having the full daily amount of EBM and is gaining weight. his time between feeds also ranges from 30mins to 3hours. I am hoping when he gets to solids it will help??

Depends on the time of day for my baby, she will either drink the whole bottle in about 20 minutes (6oz) or she will drink 3oz have a play for an hour then drink the other 3oz and go to sleep! I’ve not changed her teats since birth as she is drinking well. We have the tommee tippee bottles with size 1 teats x

Usually around 15ish mins, she is 13 weeks now but when she was 10 weeks we went through stage of her falling asleep during feeds and taking bottles for up to an hour. I upgraded to size 2 but introduced slowly every other feeds etc, now its so much better

Aww 🥰

Try dr brown anticolic bottles. Mam flow is too fast or philips avent

In hospital the midwives use number two tests for newborns. Mam brand. It used to be practice to use number 1 now they recommend starting with a number two so maybe try that x

We had the same issue but with Tommee Tippee. We swapped to Philips Avent and the problem is gone 😊

Definitely try different bottles or teats!

Hi! Mom of a baby with feeding issues here… when she was in the NICU we were told that prolonged feeding could actually tire a baby out faster making them feed less efficiently. I know it’s inconvenient but you could feed for a half hour and then you may just have to feed more often throughout the day
