Tonsil stones

Hi everyone! I've got an issue with recurrent tonsil stones, they're so painful and used to turn into tonsillitis but I manage to take them out myself now so they don't infect. The only problem is, they're SO painful. They're usually about the size of my finger nail. Does anyone know how to stop these from occuring? I'm paranoid about bad breath and on more than one occasion if I've been speaking to someone or laughing, one has popped out (gross I know). I don't kiss my boyfriend anymore, I'm just so embarrassed. I have really good oral hygiene, I don't smoke, drink etc. What else can I do? Any tips would be grand 💜

Get a tonsillectomy. I had one at the age of 23. The worse recovery ❤️‍🩹 but it was so worth it. No more tonsil stones, no heavy breathing, no snoring, no throat infections or strep throat.

@Veronica in the UK they need to you have tonsillitis 7 times within a year but I've only had it 5 as I can now stop them, they think it's too high risk for haemorrhages and other risk factors unfortunately. I'm on the waiting list for ENT but that's over a year so wanted to know what to do in the meantime

I see, I believe it’s the same here. I had three in one year. My ENT doctor took a look and examined me. He definitely saw how big my tonsils were and I had surgery and couple weeks later. Everyone is different. Hope you find some comfort soon.

@Veronica ouch that sounds so painful 😬 how did you find the recovery?

The recovery process was very painful. I couldn’t eat, swallowed let alone breathe! Without pain. The. The scabs you form wile your recovery. Yuk!!! My tongue was so swollen for days.

Do you do nasal irrigation With saline nasal salt sachets? This might help to some degree- once a week. dehydration and post nasal drip make it worse plus when I’ve had a cold. It’s probably the worst thing having these. I feel you. I want mine out too but they won’t and I don’t have tonsillitis often.

I also suffer from tonsil stones, when they’re bad and I can’t get them out I use this mouthwash, this mouthwash is actually so good even if you had something like onions in a salad and want ur breath to not smell at all it gets rid of it, But if your pregnant don’t use it as not sure it’s safe as last time I checked had castor oil in it I believe! You can get in boots it’s so worth it

Also it works for like 4/5 hours at a time
