Look into starting a sole proprietorship. It's the easiest and best way in Alberta to run a business in the sense you're looking for, where you're wanting to sell a product made by you. Tax laws and income claim is relatively simple. You'll need a license from the registries office, a company name (unless you have one in mind, a numbered company is easiest - a numbered name is unlikely to already be taken and you can add a trade name to it at any point), and an annual return every year. I believe you can earn a certain amount of income as a sole proprietor per year, before you are required to pay GST - but don't quote me on that. It's a good idea to set aside part of your earnings every year for tax purposes, as soon as it comes in and before it can be spent. Good luck!

Look up cottage laws in your area! My state’s are very loose but some can go as far as having to have a completely separate space for baking for business purposes
