Jury duty

In Nov 2023 I received a letter about doing jury duty but the date I was due to start was my due date so obviously had to delay it. I recently received another letter saying about being selected again and to start at end of Nov this year (typical that it is also my birthday the date I am meant to start 🙄). But I am breast feeding, not back at work yet so have baby with me all day and I also have a 2 year old. He goes to a childminder 3.5 days a week so we have childcare for him but only part of the week. Does anyone know if I will be able to be excused? I don't really have many options as no one else can look after my baby as husband works in office everyday, grandparents work full time. I know that you can only postpone once, which is why im worried they will say that i have to do it! Thanks in advance! Really stressing about it 😪

My friend was excused from jury duty when she had not long had her baby, they're fairly reasonable as long as you contact them quickly from what I've heard x

I postponed once and then when I was called in again I went and explained i was thr primary caregiver and they told me to just send a copy of the birth certificate in to be excused. I didn't have to serve that day but I did need to just physically go in and explain why I couldn't serve

@Amber okay great, thank you! X

@Leslie ah I see, okay thanks!x

@s a r a 🥀 thanks Sara! I should have probably stated I'm in UK though!x

As you're breastfeeding you'll be excused

I will also say I'm in NYC so it may be different for you depending on where you're located

Hey, I can understand why you're stressing about this situation. It sounds like a challenging time with a newborn and a toddler to look after. Given your circumstances, you might have a good chance of being excused from jury duty, especially with your breastfeeding and childcare situation. It's worth reaching out to the jury duty office and explaining your current responsibilities. They may be understanding and provide you with an exemption. Hang in there, and I hope it all works out smoothly for you! 💪😊
