Independent play

Hello! My 30-month old LB just will not ever sit and play on his own, he doesn't really play with anything other than his foam alphabet and numbers puzzle mat, he will get me to hide the letters around the room, then he will find them and make me go get them 🙈 or he will get me to line them up in order on the cupboard so he can blow them down, if I try to leave he will drag me back and if I refuse he will SCREAM and go quite hysterical! I just wish he would entertain himself for just a short while with his toys without having to have YouTube on my phone! Anyone else's toddlers the same??? Or has anyone got any tips to encourage independent play? I don't know whether to remove his foam letters for a while to encourage him to play with something else but he is really, really obsessed with them and is the first thing he looks for when he cones downstairs in the morning 🫠

Some kids just need more attention than others. My daughter doesn't like being left alone or playing by herself. & I don't really have any mum friends to have playdates with so it's exhausting.

My little boy is the same age, he plays alone most of the time and then will want me to join in, does your little one do to nursery? X

Thank you both for the replies ♥️ yes he goes to nursery 3 full days per week. He actually got better with playing (started to play with other toys!) the day after I posted this, but now he has gone back to how he was again and has also gone back to not wanting to walk anywhere but wants to be carried 🙄

I think Susan in right all kids are different and some need more attention than others, my little boy is quite independent but if he’s poorly or a bit jealous of his little sister or tired he can be clingy to me and just want to be on me and I think although it’s frustrating (especially when you want 5 minutes peace!) just think they’re only little once and it’s a bitter sweet feeling of joy but missing them when they do play alone xx
