Is this sexist? I started up a volunteer group in my neighborhood to address the trees & landscaping in the "common space"/park area.

We invited anyone interested to join...several people did & one older guy said "well, I'm glad people volunteered, but I wish there were more men, so I don't have to do all the work. Haha" The guy has always seemed arrogant and condescending to me.

It’s a funny joke but yeah the women can prove him wrong otherwise he’s right

He made a harmless joke. Chill out.

Many folks still think sexist jokes are hilarious. I was told I'm trouble this morning because all women are cuz we are expensive, too many feelings, lack of communication. I just call it out, attempt to educate and if they refuse to listen just move on with my life.

Hmmm if its an older dude, 'back in the day' men were more often expected to do the heavy lifting, so he may not be aware that these days that's not a thing anymore?

I'd just correct/confronthim, ask him why he thinks the girls can't do the work?

I'm very sensitive to this kind of stuff

He’s sexist in thinking that he’d be made to do all the work, so yes. I would just say this back, “If you’re not up for it then you can always leave, this is a community project after all. The door’s always opened.”

Definitely gives the ick
