I haven't done purées for a while now, my sons is the same! He wants to pick up the food and chew
My son eats food food! As long as they’ve got the teeth and you monitor them really well you’ll be fine! My son will occasionally eat purees but most of the time he’s trying to reach and eat my food so I started giving it to him just not any really tough meats yet, but he has had shredded chicken !
He is ready for solids !
@Hailey he only has 2 teeth and one of his top teeth just poked out today but he chews his food really good. I've only been giving him soft solids since he's just getting his 3rd tooth. He'll eat about 1/3 of purees now and will cry since he can't bite into it
@Natha I breastfeed on demand but it's starting to feel like breastmilk isn't keeping him full. I'll nurse him on each side for 10 minutes and then he's reaching for my food 20 minutes later and eating a lot of it. I just didn't know if he could eat solids instead of purees because I didn't want to rob him of the nutrients in the purees but he eats solid fruits and veggies
Babies can eat solid foods from 6 months in most cases! We never did purées and my son is a fantastic eater- even with no teeth. Gums are super effective for mashing food up. Check out solid starts, they have a free database where they show you how to serve different foods based on your babies age. It’s run by a group of moms who are pediatricians, feeding specialists, occupational and developmental therapists. Truly an amazing resource!
I share my food with my eight month old. Just no/low salt and no sugar. I make sure it’s cooked soft and cut it into small pieces. Off of my plate I’ll give rice, veggies, chicken, egg, or spaghetti and meatballs. He only has two teeth on the bottom but he’ll put a small piece into his mouth and eventually swallow. Baby led finger food!
Yes you are fine to stop purees! If you want to continue them you can put them on a reusable pouch so baby has the option to feed himself. Food is for fun until 1 because breastmilk should still be a main source of nutrition. That doesn't mean it's wrong to give solids. And vice versa, it isn't wrong to mostly give milk either.
