What will they do?

I think im in early labour, im having consistent pains. I want to call triage but would like to know what they’ll do. Im 37 weeks Thursday , I know they use a speculum when your at a certain gestation does anyone know when they stop with that? Will they swap me? Will they keep me In because I’m early ? Thanks x

If you're having consistent pains they'll likely tell you to monitor and call back or come in when those pains reach a certain frequency. If you accept a vaginal examination when you go in (which you don't have to) it would be a gloved hand not a speculum to see how dilated you are. But all of this depends on your personal medical and personal situation so you need to just call triage for advice

I wasn’t sure if I was in latent labour or not as the contractions were quite strong but then there would be pauses. When they got really painful I went in and was 4cm dilated by the time we got there so it was very quick! I was 36+2, trying ti make it to 37 weeks for induction as my waters broke early (PPROM) at 34+6 weeks. I had minimal examinations because of the risk of infection but they did a vaginal check when I got to the unit and then again just before I went into stage 2 labour. No speculum for labour itself. They used one when I was admitted with PPROM to check my cervix and to swab. X

Thanks so much for your replies! This is what I was hoping for you’ve both eased my anxiety x
