How much milk when no longer give formula?

Can anyone tell me minimum whole milk amount to give when baby turns 1 (found all different amounts online) and when sort clarification from my health visitor they didn't know 😂?

Minimum amount is 0 as technically from 12 months they don’t actually need milk but can have it if they want. My little boy has been on 10oz a day for the past 2 months so thinking he’ll just drop completely from 12 months xx

The NHS recommends around 12oz a day if you choose to give milk after 1. You don’t want to give too much as it effects the absorption of iron and will also fill them up meaning they won’t eat enough food for the nutrients they need x

@Yasmin is it all milk that affects iron absorption or just cows milk?

I think it also depends on their overall dairy intake. It'll include cheese, yogurt etc. They're supposed to have a certain amount of dairy a day 😊

@Bex it’s calcium rather than cows milk itself that affects iron absorption so I would compare the calcium content of cows milk vs oat milk and that will give you a rough idea x

I do think the effect is pretty small though so as long as baby isn’t having lots and lots of it you’re probably okay. The bigger worry would be filling them up on milk which won’t give them everything they need x

So it's recommended on the NHS website that from 1 they should have at least 12oz (350ml) of whole milk or 2 servings of food made from milk eg cheese, yogurt, fromage frais 😊

@Yasmin oooo interesting!
