Swopping from breastfeeding to formula

Hi all , I’ve decided to make the swop from breastfeeding to formula, I spoke to my midwife about this who said to do it gradually, So I started with one bottle for a couple of days and have been upping it every other day , today she will go on to 3 bottles of formula, my midwife originally advised to start with 3oz but the prep machine only does a minimum of 4oz, when I made this and given it to her she’s still looking for more after , should I be making more for her or topping her up on the boob? Eventually I want to fully stop the breastfeeding

How old is she?

I would personally top up on breastfeeding. I appreciate you want to stop but doing so gradually will help your supply diminish comfortably rather than risking engorgement and mastitis

It’s a lot easier for them to feed from a bottle so sometimes it just takes a few minutes for their brain to register they are full. I would try distracting her for 5 minutes and then if she still seems hungry offer her a boob. We combi feed breast and expressed and sometimes we find she is still looking for more after a bottle, but by the time we’ve gone to the kitchen and got it she’s no longer interested x

@CSW she’s 4 weeks today

So for me I’ve been combo feeding from day one and whenever he would drink from the bottle he would drink it too fast and not realize he was not hungry. I think it takes like 20 mins to know your full. Maybe try pace feeding?

Good suggestion @Heather , we also pace feed and try and make a bottle last a good 15 minutes

I’d say top up on boob for now if she’s only 4weeks
