How strict are you with processed foods?

Do you let your children eat things like sausages, sausage rolls, chicken nuggets, frozen chips, fish fingers, tins of soup etc? Or do you make everything from scratch? I love to cook but I’m back to work full time and just feel it’s so unrealistic to make everything from scratch. I obviously want to give my daughter all the nutrition and healthiest diet as possible but sometimes fish fingers, frozen veg and rice just has to do. What are your thoughts?

I’m not so strict in the sense I mainly make his food, so I don’t necessarily over think it if he has the odd waffle etc, especially when he is refusing everything. I also use frozen veg to reduce prep time

I pretty much cook everything from scratch, he has the occasional sausage if we are. When eating out he will have fish fingers or nuggets from the children's menu as a treat. The main reasons we don't give him that at home is because I prefer for him not to have high-salt foods and I also love cooking! There's nothing wrong with frozen veg and rice :)

It be ok now and then. I'm not that strict with food. But I got older daughter thats autistic and she basically eats just that like sausages roll, chicken nuggets, pizza. She is so skinny. It hard with her you give veg and stuff or do her roast or anything like that she have two mouthfuls then says she done.when my older daughter was little she used eat anything you gave her and more. Now she hardly eats. With little one I'm trying not to do that so much give so much chicken nuggets and stuff like that

I'm not super strict but we don't usually eat those things either, so maybe a couple times a month or so. I think though that if she has some processed food a couple times a week is not that bad, I just wouldn't make it a habit. And I would personally do that for kids of any age, not just toddlers

Agree with everyone else! My LO has it occasionally as I see no issue with that at all!

I cook his meals from scratch at home which means I’m a little less strict when we’re out and with the occasional treats. We let him have sausages since he’s going through a fussy phase and it’s something I know he’ll eat but I try to limit it to once per week and I read the labels to make sure to pick nitrate free ones with the cleanest ingredients. If I do give him more processed stuff I always read the labels to find the best options. Whenever I have the time I make big batches of foods to keep in the freezer for the days I don’t have the energy or time to make a full meal. Things like turkey and bean burgers, meatballs, lentil patties and pasta sauces are so handy to have in the freezer for busy days

We completely avoid ultra processed foods, and bread we don’t have. I make my own. but think it’s pretty hard to avoid all processed foods. I make all our meals at home, but we go out for lunch a lot. Sometimes it’s a Greggs, Costa etc or sometimes a proper restaurant. And then sometimes we do go out for dinner too but because the majority of our diet is healthy I’m not as strict with it. I’d say I’m more strict with snack things & sugar

I try and make his meals from scratch but I don’t mind him having the odd thing here and there if I’m having a sausage roll or something. Most of his veg is frozen

I try to make batch meals at home from scratch and snacks.... but honestly life is too shirt and awkward to be super strict about it all. I just try to make sensible choices just as I would do myself and pick items that look the least fiddled with (hope that makes sense) Frozen veg is not counted as processed food in my mind as I store veg in the same way at home all the time when I buy too much.

I'm not really strict about it at all, as long as she is eating plenty of 'good' foods alongside these things then I don't really stress about it. And for Dinner she just gets the same as what we have, I just cook enough to make 2 Dinners so I'm only cooking every other day to make it a bit easier!

I pretty much make most meals from scratch and he has a lot of fruit/veg. However he also loves a pack of pom bears and a pain au chocolat🤷‍♀️😂

I am, although they have fish fingers at nursery. I batch cook and than I defrost one meal for him in the evening. sometimes he has three days in a row pasta Bolognese but at least it's homemade. But don't feel guilty, do whatever works for you and your family

As long as they are eating and it’s balanced meals it doesn’t matter at the end if the day .
