Going out around feeds

Ftm and I'm so stressed how to go out around feeds etc. Live in London so there's no going back to the car for feeds, nappy and I think what if there's no cafe nearby do I change in the pram and feed just on the street somewhere? Not sure why but this is overwhelming me. Especially for appointments at the drs etc as I dont know how to plan it with my 5 week old

I bottle feed my baby, and I take a flask of hot water and a cooling flask out with me along with a couple of bottles and formula. I feed wherever I am , appointments. If needed you could sit on a bench, some grass for a feed if you are not near anywhere to can go in. My friend that breast feeds does the same when we are out. She even feed baby whilst in a carrier. No one cares. Same for nappies. If needed you can do it in the pram . I've changed my baby in a park, where there were no facilities. As long as you have a changing mat with you , you can adapt to your surroundings. I am ftm too. Try not to overthink it. You will find your flow and your confidence will grow

@Lucy thank you! Definitely overthinking it x

You will feed and change your baby wherever you need to. I live just outside of London but used to live central when I had my first. I still regularly stop on benches, pop in the library etc to change and feed baby, no one really minds or cares. Yesterday my partner was bottle feeding baby on the train. Weirdest place I’ve changed my baby was platform 5 of Clapham junction station when my eldest was about 7months old, a few people looked at me funny but I didn’t care. You’ll adapt. Don’t overthink it too much and you’ll find you’ll get it sorted as these times come.

It’s very scary but remember in London there’s so many cafes, restaurants, pubs etc I’ve fed my baby on a park bench a few times. Also I always take the opportunity to change my baby when at the doctors… they usually ask if I want to change them because they usually get weighed and if they don’t I just say I’m going to change them! I also have started feeding half way through appointments. It feels weird when it’s you, but remember if you say someone feeding their baby in public you wouldn’t even give it a thought!

It can be a little overwhelming at first but the more you do it the easier it feels. I have a screamer, she’s screams when wants food with no warning so early on I mastered standing breast feeding in the park, car parks or just the street as I couldn’t stand to hear her so hungry. Maybe practise different positions at home Such as standing which gives you flexibility then! I always think nappy changes can wait until you find a cafe/pub as I think it’s a little cold for a nappy change outside now xx

Outer London here but go into central quite a bit (and doing like 6 baby classes per week and have a toddler). I’m the same as @Naomi - we just do feeds and changes as and when needed. I met some friends at a nice Italian in central recently and was a bit early + she needed to be fed and the restaurant wasn’t open yet. Literally found a non busy street around the corner and sat on the edge of a sidewalk to pull out my boob & feed her 🤣 If you’re nervous about it just making yourself get out and do it will help wonders and you’ll get used to it quickly

You totally don’t need to use one as babies need feeding and that is completely normal but I get uncomfortable feeding in busy places so I use a nursing cover, which for me means I am happy to feed anywhere and every where plus I don’t need to worry too much about what top I am wearing as no one can see. As for nappy changes I have done that in the pram before now, in fact I have chosen to in the past as the changing tables don’t always look the cleanest, or on a park bench etc but maybe not now it is getting colder. x

Theres baby changing tables in most public toilets, bring a changing matt with you or blanket to put them on For feeds just feed them anywhere. Ive had the odd stare while BF in public but I found if I stare back they stop 🤣 try rugby hold if walking around If formula feeding same thing just feed them anywhere If anyone says anything tell them to f off xx

Also I fond changing them over my knee the easiest, especially as they get bigger and try running away x

Thanks everyone, that's super helpful to hear from others and has calmed me down 😂🙂xx

When I travel, and I don’t drive so no car to go back too - I feed baby where ever, I’ve been to restaurants and sit at the table feeding (breastfeeding) Changing baby I tend to put my nappy changing mat on the changing table if there is one. I haven’t changed baby in pram as he’s a boy and likes to wee everywhere occasionally

@Chloe also have a boy so was thinking the same 😅pram was maybe last resort if I couldn't find a cafe or restaurant

Honestly I’ve put a mat on the floor in the toilet before as my last resort 🫠😬

I don't drive, I've fed my LO sitting on a changing mat in the park when she was 3 weeks old and changed her outside on the grass in the park and at a National Trust. Fed on the bench outside a National Trust house, fed in a bar, restaurant, library. Honestly people don't care. I make sure we have hand sanitizer in the change bag and always have a change of clothes. You may feel it's getting a little cold for outdoor changes, but ultimately they'd be without clothes for what 5 mins max, they will be fine.
