Appointments

Hi all, I got a phone call last Monday to say I had GD, and have an antenatal appointment booked in for Tuesday at the hospital. I thought she said on the phone that the diabetes clinic and dietician would be in touch but I’ve heard nothing, just wondered how and when your first appointments around all this happened? I’m in Wiltshire (based out of Salisbury hospital) if anyone has any experience with the same Trust. Thank you xx

My doctor told me not to wait on a phone call. She said I had to be aggressive and stay on top of them. I'm in the US but that was my experience

They called me same day as my appointment of diagnosis

I got notified I have GD on Wednesday & got a call around maybe an hour later from the diabetes team telling me I've to go in this Wednesday to collect my blood glucose kit (I'm on the cusp so to take readings for a week or so before they decide if I need medication). I'm in Scotland, but I believe if you've maybe got an app at the hospital it could be connected to all & you may from there then be required to go to the diabetes/dietician department? If you're unsure I'd get in touch with your MV to get a better understanding x

@Kerry thanks that’s useful. I’ve tried following up today but just got told “they usually would have been in contact” and to wait til my other appointment, they just weren’t interested. Tried going direct to the diabetes clinic but can’t find a human and have left messages. Just feel quite stressed knowing I’ve only got a short window to try and improve things anyway. Will see what happens tomorrow.

Do you know who you’re seeing at the antenatal clinic? After my phone call about GD, I was booked in for an appointment at the antenatal clinic with the diabetes midwife a few days later. She took me through enriching and gave me the testing kit and how to use along with some advice and resources. She said the dietician would be in touch but I didn’t hear. At my next appointment, the dietician was there the same day so the diabetes midwife got her to speak to me and they booked me in for an online call about GD. It was useful but by that time I’d already read up a lot myself. Hope all goes well for you

Thank you, Maneek. I persevered in the end and just rang all the diabetic clinic numbers til I found someone, turns out they’d misspelled my name and I’d got lost, it was a good job I did as I needed to see the dietician before the consultant and was able to go in early to get everything in the right order, now all set with the testing kit. Sadly it’s looking like mine can’t be diet controlled as my fasting levels are still higher than they’d like even when I’ve done everything right so looks like next stop metformin :(
