Quick question

Hi ladies! So, I’m eating in a calorie deficit. For a little context, I weigh 244lbs, for my deficit I eat 1565 cal per day & 120g of protein. My question is; is it okay if I dont meet my calorie goal but I meet the protein? I’m pretty good about getting my protein in but at the end of the day, I still have about 300-400 calories left over

1200 calories is wayyy to low. 😕 You may see results in the short term but your body will feel deprived before long. I’d definitely aim to hit your calories! Also, curious how you’re hitting 120g or protein, but not hitting your calories? If doing primarily protein shakes, maybe swap one of those for a more wholesome, rounded meal.

Ehhh I would try to eat an extra snack or something to help it. I know for me I might meet that number or I might not eat much during the day. I think occasionally is fine as long as you had healthy meals and what not. But maybe add in a snack of like nuts or something to help get the calories up

First off, you need more protein. At your weight at least 200g. Secondly, you’re severely undereating already considering your weight. This is important because you will at some point reach a plateau and if your calories are already this low how much lower can you go? I would start at 2000cals and make at least 200g of that protein. To answer your question, no it's not okay. You need to eat more.

Hi! Pre/postnatal trainer here 👋. My first question would be how do you know you're in a deficit? Have you been tracking at maintenance for a while? Is it a guess? Secondly, I'd up both your protein and your calories.

@Alice do you know of a way that I can calculate exactly what my intake is supposed to be?

So usually the best way is to just log what you're naturally eating for about a month or so. If you're not losing or gaining, then that's your maintenance. Once you figure out maintenance you want to cut as little calories as possible so that you can still support your body and not feel deprived. The calories you cut should never be from protein source (you want to keep that protein intake high!) There's many factors and this isn't something I typically focus on (I'm pretty anti diet culture/ restriction) but I hope that helps! Definitely want to find something that will be sustainable for you!

Yes there are calorie calculators online and it looks like you already found one. Why you’re creating this bug of a deficit I don’t understand. I would start as high as possible and only go lower when you stall/after losing a significant amount of weight.

I think it would be highly beneficial to book an appointment with a dietician to ask this question. For me, my maintenance calories is actually 1450 unless I’m working out. For some, 1200 is too little, but for some 1200 is actually okay. The answer depends on your body and professional guidance is helpful for this. If you’re not hungry, it’s probably okay
