Feeding

Hey there, So our one year has always been kind of slow on the eating front. We’ve gotten to the point where he is now handling level 3 purées and maybe potatoes/sweet potatoes but everything else solid food wise, he refuses to try or if he does, he will gag or spit it out. Should I be concerned given his age? It feels like some babies are such wonderful eaters and we are really behind developmentally or something. Thanks!

I feel the same way but I feel it's due to the fact that my LO only has 4.5 teeth at the moment. Some textures might still be too much for her.

That’s a valid thought I hadn’t thought of. He only has 2 teeth currently and 2 starting to protrude.

@Nichole, it is not connected to the number of teeth. My lo with 4 teeth could bite on a lot of different products and chew them well, too. I believe it is a combination of skill (bany need to have a lot of practice with different food + food interest, which you can warm up if you eat with your baby and share your food Ps Gaging it is not chooking. Let them do it and learn their ways

My girl is still not great with solids. She loves any and all snacks but “real” food (healthy food) she’s only sometimes into. She definitely still gets a lot of her nutrition from nursing. Our pediatrician is not concerned - every baby develops differently and she is doing perfectly fine as far as being healthy. The pediatrician just said to keep offering and trying new things!

@Kali how old if your girl? mine is 13 months and is exactly the same but i’m still anxious every day wondering if she’s eating enough 😭 at what point do we worry?

She is 12.5 months!! Honestly, I wouldn’t worry unless she is losing weight or having some other health issues presenting! I mean you can’t force them food right! Our pediatrician asked if we thought that it could be texture related but we do not think that. But she said that if we were worried at all she could refer to a therapist who can work with her. I don’t feel it’s necessary as she is very slowly doing better with amounts of eating, trying what I put in front of her at least and health wise she is fine. So, if something seems to be wrong maybe then address it or always address your concerns with your trusted provider! ❤️
