returning to work

I'm not due to return to work until the end of April, just a couple of days before my boy turns 1. I just wanted to ask because I've enquired about childminders, and a few have said that I need to send him on set days each week to qualify for the government's free funding hours. I'm a bit stuck on what I should do. I would love to stay at home with my baby until he starts school, but we could do with the extra money. I work 3 nights a week but it's a rolling rota so I don't have set shifts and my partner has recently moved on to day shifts 5 days a week Mon-Fri. I have no family or friends to help me with childcare. What options do I have?

Do you have any feasibility at work to go on a family flexible working pattern? My partner and I both work shifts and it's what we are going to need to do to work around nursery days. I'll probably be dropping weekends to be honest

You’ll need to put in a flexible working request with work and request set days/ shifts x

With respect, you need set days with set hours. If I was you I'd put in a flexible working request. I've just been through this process and have got what I wanted for next year

Negotiate with work as soon as possible about flexible working as recommended as most childcare need set days. Employers tend to be reasonable mine were, so dont worry.

I will put in a flexible working request. Thanks everyone! x
