Giving meals

When did everyone start giving meals? My LO is just over 6m, obsessed with food! Has a little bit of something for breakfast, lunch and dinner but they aren't actual meals. Just finger foods/mashed food for spoon feeding, still trying new foods as well. But I'm wondering when I should start giving her actual meals and drop bottles

Hey! I read and was advised that milk (whether breast or formula) should continue to be babies main source of nutrition until they’re one. My LB is almost 11 months and we just dropped his 4th bottle (he has also been transitioning from 2 naps to 1). He is now on 3 8oz bottles a day (his second one is given before his nap at 11am) / 3 meals + one snack late afternoon! He also drinks water at meal times too and seems to be content with this amount of food / milk. I think we started introducing ‘meals’ when he was about 8 months but still kept it quite relaxed. However each bab is different and you’ll know yours best always!! & what works in with your routine Xx

@Abbie thanks! I know she still needs milk, she currently has 4-5 bottles of milk but her interest in food and actually eating has shot up so wasn't sure if I should be moving her onto meals yet 🤷‍♀️

Following along to learn when/ how to introduce foods 😇

Generally, at 6m baby should be introduced to solids including allergens but their main source of calories continues to be milk (breastmilk/formula or combination of both). Water should be offered with each meal. At the beginning it's good to start with offering food for one meal only, and gradually increase that to 3 meals and 2-3 small snacks between meals. 9 months is the tipping point where roughly half of baby's calories should come from solids and half from milk. It's normal to see a reduction in the frequency and/or quantity of milk feeds as baby increasingly eats more solids. By 12 months bottles should be phased out and basically all of baby's calories/nutrition should come from food and the source of hydration should be water. A cup of full-fat cow's milk can be introduced then as a drink but it's not essential. Formula is no longer needed (giving it longer than 12 months can be bad as it can interfere with baby's appetite for solids). Breastfeeding can continue (we kept going until 2yo).

We do three meals he’s 7.5 months. Introduced 3 meals at 7 months old, mainly because I wanted to establish a routine with him. He has around 900mls of formula still the odd day he has around 700ish but he if he’s eaten well I don’t mind him not having as much milk xx

@Amy her milk sometimes goes down but more depends on when she wakes up lol But this is helpful, thank you! She eats with us and if we ate at the table eating and she's not got something, she screams 🤣 so I'm wondering if I need to start giving her a bit more/start giving her actual meals!

@Megan possibly! It’s all trial and error! It like to make my own but it felt really overwhelming at times during the day with the cleaning so at dinner we put some extra in ice cube trays so I can give this to him a lunch as well during the week xx
