Gestational diabetes test

My 20 week scan showed baby’s tummy was 96% percentile (all other measurements were much lower) so I’m having a test on Tuesday to check for GD. Baby’s estimated weight is at 72% percentile. Has anyone got it or had it? Should I be worried? I feel pretty relaxed about it, as it appears to be managed with diet and (possibly) insulin if needed? Not saying it’ll be an easy ride though! 😅

I had it with my first. At the beginning it was so so hard. Trying to figure out what I can and can't eat and It felt so limited. It's not just sugar you can't have! :/ Later on I got depressed everytime I was in the shop I kept seeing all the food I can't have. I did manage with just diet but I only found out at 32 weeks. It can't be controlled just with diet always. Sometimes you migh need help. Depends how your placenta is working. I'm having a re test in November and I pray to God I still don't have it. I do not wish to go through that again!

@Annie did you have any of the symptoms? I don’t have any that I’m aware of right now. My sister in law had the test for the same reason - larger tummy - and she didn’t have it, hoping we just make them chubby!

I am currently 22 weeks and was diagnosed around 7 weeks so. Still so long to go! It’s not fun at first, I hated the blood testing but I’m used to it now. It is hard working out what you can and cant eat but it does get easier. Im on medication for mine as it couldnt be diet controlled. There is a group on FB which is really good and helpful if you do have it x

I was tested for GD at 14 weeks (now 20) it was diet controlled for a few weeks before I was put onto medication (metaformin) but potentially I will need to move onto insulin towards the end. Some days are easier than others once you figure out best foods for you but definitely days where you just want to eat everything you shouldn’t. Also agree with some other comments the 4 x a day testing to start with is a faff but you get used to it quickly. My 20 week scan measurements were all fairly ok so I’m hopeful that because it was picked up so early we can keep baby from getting too chunky plus manage my own health too. Good Luck!

I had no symtoms at all. I felt perfectly fine. It only got picked up because I had a scan at 31 weeks for unrelated reasons and then baby was messuring "big". Because of no symtoms and feeling fine I was in disbelief

I've also been put forward My first son was showing big and I was gaining 1kg for a few weeks.. they never tested me even after asking. This time round I'm also now gaining 1kg.. baby showing 85% percentile, going for elective as first birth was hell and ended in emergency c section. I don't actually know much about GD.. but definitely worth the test and I'm sure lots of support will be there xx

Had it with my last pregnancy so was tested at 16 weeks this time & have it again. My boys belly was measuring ahead last time which prompted me to ask to be tested ahead of usual, although it can just be a bigger baby! I was extremely thirsty this time before the test but it’s just all trial and error of what you can tolerate & it’ll just become second nature. Gestational diabetes uk group on fb is fabulous!
