Any tips on potty training?

I got a crap ton of underwear on clearance at Walmart for a dollar package and now I’m thinking of going to plastic underwear

We have potty trained fully but the times that I have put my son in underwear. He didn’t care that he was wet in regular underwear.

We tried this but has been working better is to let her free ball! We put her potty in the living room since that is where we mainly are and when she has to go she walks over there and goes. We make a HUGE deal when she goes potty and she gets a star and a treat. So far we are doing good! The only hard thing is when we aren’t at home obviously she can’t be naked haha and she doesn’t know to tell us when she needs to go quite yet

The shift from diapers straight to underwear is too subtle to the toddler brain. The tightness around the waist signals the brain that there is a barrier and it is ok to pee. What I've found through potty training my now 4.5 year old, potty training children while working in childcare and working with my 21 month old is that they have to learn the sensation of needing to go before they can learn to hold it long enough to get from play/activity to the toilet. If you want to go hard on a "3 day method" of potty training, start with no bottoms at all then work up to just pants then just underwear then pants and undies.

@Lea-ann ,oh thanks so much! @Bri thanks,that’s helpful to know.We bought the toilet seat and potty for when we’re out,that way,he gets used to both.I bought some stars and set up a potty training station with fun books and colourful underwear choices he can chose from.Hoping tomorrow is better. @Charlotte thanks so much.That makes sense.Nursery will offer toilet/potty every 15 mins so he gets the hang of it and that’s what we did today although it wasn’t very successful, understandably.My son has an active digestive system and goes thrice or 4 times after each meal so I can anticipate his schedule.We’re not putting any pressure on him,we’ll just keep at it consistently and see what happens.

Oh also at public toilets with the auto flush, rip off a good piece of tp and drape it over the sensor. It won’t flush till you take it off. My target and a few other bathrooms have the sensors in the wall with the metal plate, so you can’t drape it over. But no fear. Get that piece fold it in half and spit (or wet) on the paper just a little dot… it’ll stick to the wall to cover the sensor… some may find that part gross, but it’s worth your child not getting scared or distracted while trying to go

I recommend reading or listening to the book Oh Crap. By Jamie Glowacki. It is a gold mine for potty training knowledge and has answers to almost every hurdle you will face. We attempted potty training at 19 months bc I was having baby #2 in September. It went so well for the first week and he almost had it down but I think he was just a little too young and I was too pregnant to want to push through so we put a pause and I will reattempt once I’m a little further out of the postpartum stage, around 2. But I definitely plan to use the same method!

Tbh the nothing on for 2 days really works. Basically they get to walk around naked all day lol . It's easier for me because I have tile and not carpet. It's important for kids to see they did a oh oh . It's not a oh oh when they do it in their diaper or pants because that's all they've known . When they do it on the floor they actually see it.

@Allison thanks for the recommendation!I’ll have a listen and see how we go.@Ona ,hehe,that sounds so daunting but sounds like the only way.Knowing my child,he would definitely do it on our carpet although it doesn’t cover the whole living room.I’ll try this and try to keep him on his play mat and see how we go.He refuses to sit on the toilet but loves following me in there😂
