Relocating!

Hey everyone - I currently live in Swindon and I’m due to have my first child in March. My partner just got a job at the BHAFC training ground so we’ll be relocating to Lancing before I’m due. I’m looking for some advice or hospital recommendations. Whats maternity care like at Worthing hospital? Or at hospitals in Brighton? I’m considering staying with my midwife and hospital in Swindon but if maternity care is better in Worthing then I’ll swap - just need to hear from people first hand. Thanks in advance💖

Can’t speak from experience for giving birth but I’ve only ever heard good things about Worthing! And so far antenatal / midwife appointments have all been great xx

I cant compare the two for you, but so far, my experience at Worthing has been significantly better than my experience at Epsom. I had my oldest in November 2019 in Epsom, moved to Worthing in July 2020 and had my second there in June 2022. Im currently 26 weeks with our third. So far, all aspects have been great, and my scheduled section at Worthing was such a dream. I'm having another section in January, hoping for a similarly good experience! To add (although its highly unlikely you would need it!) my second had lingering jaundice after birth, so blood tests were done which led to a whole insane spiral of other issues and tests and consultations. The situation itself was scary and upsetting but the team at Worthing were fantastic and very transparent about what was going on. After 7 months, ultimately nothing became of it, but during that time i felt supported and well looked after.

I had excellent care from the maternity unit at Worthing. I’d definitely recommend going there rather than Brighton, as firstly in Lancing you’ll be 10-15 mins from the hospital, which is great when you’re in labour, rather than potentially nearly an hour’s drive from the hospital in Brighton if it was rush hour. Also based on what I’ve heard from friends, the midwives etc at Brighton are far busier and the care isn’t as good, whereas at Worthing the midwives always had plenty of time for me and helped a lot.

@Becka this is really helpful thank you x

I’m due a baby at Worthing in Feb, so far everyone has been lovely and I have multiple friends who have had babies there and say it was great. Brighton not so much, in fact one friend who recently went there had a bad experience x

I’ve had babies in both Worthing and Brighton and much preferred Worthing for everything. Midwife appointments, labour and aftercare! X

I had amazing care from Worthing maternity when having my son
