Shaving

A question I’ve had going round in my head on repeat over the last few days. I’m currently 30 weeks pregnant and concerned about shaving down there… I can’t really reach now for a start… if you don’t mind, could you please talk about your experiences? Did you shave before giving birth? If so, how did you manage it?! Like I said, I can’t see/reach. Did you not shave before birth? Did you feel embarrassed during labour? Thank you in advance!

I felt the same until I realised, they really don’t care at all! My midwife actually said it’s best if you don’t shave anything like a week before giving birth! They’ve probably seen the most hair and the least hair but their main priority is making sure you and baby are okay, not how much hair you’ve got going on! Wether it’s a bob ross or a Phil Mitchell 🫣 x

I wanted to be smooooooooth but same, I couldn't reach 🤣 but when the day came, I really didn't care, I just wanted my baby out! Midwives also don't care either, as Sophie put, they've seen it all! I had a male doctor come in to do my stitches, and even at that stage I didn't care 🤣

I am not lol also not doing my legs I can’t reach and don’t have the energy.

Very good point! I have already instructed my husband that he will need to help me once it becomes unreachable 😂

Id avoid razors or shaving for infections, bumps and discomfort. Alternatively a week ahead or at least a few days before birth maybe find a sensitive "down there" hair removal cream such as veet or nair! But double check about using them in pregnancy I haven't heard against it but better safe than sorry x

lol I’ve told my partner he needs fo help 🤣🤣

I'd reccomended not shaving, I did it and omg it was my worst regret. I had an episiotomy and had a bit of razor burn as I couldn't fully reach. Long story short razor burn and stitches are the worst combination I've ever experienced I sobbed any time I sat down for a week

My waters broke and I was having contractions and I got in the shower before going to the hospital to shave😂😂! However, when your giving birth you really don't care all your dignity goes away and you really don't care about all that down there I remember 3/4 doctors came in and my legs was spread 😂😂 your in so much pain all that just goes out the window 🥴😂 I just shaved and felt around to see if it felt smooth I couldn't see either I wouldn't worry to much 😂😂

I shaved regularly just by feeling if I'd missed any, but that's only because I hate the feeling of not shaving. As everyone else said, when you're in labour you really won't care about what it looks like, you just want the baby out, and the midwives have seen it all and don't care about that either. Good luck with your little one x

I was going to have a wax but left it too late, if it's long enough for a wax I'd go now as they recommend you don't go close to the date. But like others have said medical staff really don't care anyway

i’m only 35 weeks and it took me a whole hour to do it 😂, honestly don’t think i’ll do it anymore until i’ve recovered from birth. they say to not shave from 36 weeks xx

I stopped once I couldn’t reach/see properly and because I was induced quite unpredictably I hadn’t even shaved my legs. It did cross my mind briefly but I felt so at ease I didn’t care in the slightest, and I’m sure neither did the midwives. They’ll have seen it all before, the main priority is safely delivering x

I shaved and couldn't see. I just shaved by feeling and went very slow. I just don't like hair down that, I feel better with it gone. The midwives aren't bothered so don't stress over that if your are.

I didn't shave there for months before birth and didn't do my legs for about a month. All honesty I didn't think once about the hair situation during labour/birth. Once I was in the birthing room my pant were off for examinations and I'd taken my top off because I was on continuous monitoring and the bands were getting caught with my t-shirt. Spent pretty much the whole day in just my bra and was way too preoccupied to be bothered about who was seeing what.

Went into labour 3 weeks early so I defo wasent prepared did not shave 😂 but it was defo the last thing on my mind while in labour haha x

I’m so glad other people are thinking about this, as I was about to make a post about shaving…..I had stopped for a while, as I couldn’t really reach comfortably in the shower, but had a bath last night and it felt easier, so I had a go. I seem to be getting a LOT more razor bumps than I ever got pre-pregnancy - is this normal?? I really hate not shaving, although I do plan to stop in the weeks leading up to birth, but for now, I want to feel more comfortable, which means shaving…but the razor bumps are not it, especially if this is something that is a thing now with pregnancy

I did my best and shaved as well as I could. I didn't feel comfortable not doing it. However, they didn't bat and eyelid and to be honest it was the last thing on my mind!
