RSV vaccine rant

So I’m 35+3 and enquired about the RSV vaccine at my last midwife appointment last week. The midwife told me to go and enquire through my gp practice to see if I could book in for one. I received a message a few days later from the gp that as far as they were aware, the midwives were administering the vaccines at the 28 week appointment. I called the number for my midwife team to see what I needed to do next and they said they haven’t actually set up any clinics yet for the RSV vaccine and to not worry about it. Do I just forget about it then?!

I had to have mine through my GP, my community midwives don’t administer any jabs! The only time a midwife has done a jab for me was my whooping cough but I had to go to MAU in hospital for that because my doctors was fully booked, so I thought it was always GP!

I thought this too but apparently I can’t book it through my gp!

I would definitely call back and say that the midwives have advised that this jab is done via a GP surgery, so can they please let you know how to get it - don’t give up and argue your point because it’s so important and not your fault if they aren’t aligned on a process!

I booked mine through my GP surgery as wasn’t getting answers from my community midwife. Your GP surgery should be doing it as it’s not just for pregnant women but those above 75 years old??

I had a v similar experience! Got told by GPs that midwives are giving it, but my midwives said they haven't been given it yet. Going to try speaking to the GPs again to see if they will give it to me 🤦🏼‍♀️ such a poorly rolled out vaccine

I had to book mine through my gp surgery. Last pregnancy though (2021) all my vaccines were done at midwife appointments x

I was called by the midwife at 30 weeks and booked in for one around 32 weeks. Had it at the maternity ward in the hospital

You could also ask at your hospital's antenatal clinic? 💚🤞

I had a similar experience I asked them at my 32 week appointment about the vaccine they said you’re too late you should have had it at 28 weeks I was like like well no one mentioned it or offered it to me . She was like well! It’s too late . That’s it lol so now I’m stuck

I was messed around with this too, my midwife told me to contact my GP, my GP told me to speak to my midwife. Eventually I received a letter from the NHS booking me an appointment at the hospital (through the midwife service).

I thought the midwife will be the one to book you an appt, she did mine, booked me in the trust nearby

@Vanessa push back on them. It’s actually recommended to have it from the 32 weeks mark (according to the manufacturer) up until giving birth.

I had a very similar and infuriating experience. Midwife told me GP does it. GP told me Midwife does. I went to the hospital 3 times (calling before going) to get it, but after waiting 2+ hours they told me they didn't have any.... It's a joke. I insisted with the GP and managed to book it with them THREE WEEKS LATER!

Mine wasn't done by either. It was a special vaccine role out. They held clinics (similar to when they did the covid ones) there was a nurse I believe from the hospital and a midwife who just did notes. I got a text from the GP surgery about it but they apparently new nothing about when it would be then got a text to book the appointment like an hour later

I'm having the same problem. 34 weeks and it was never mentioned in my midwife appointment and now I'm panicking as it's important to get it done earlier
