Is there anything that makes periods more bearable besides birth control?

I have a super heavy flow. Usually on my period for a full 7 days. Awful cramps at least the first few days. I'm just miserable every month 😩

A good herbal tea shop or herbalist will sell a nettle blend to soothe and nourish body. Mine also has horsetail herb and a couple others. They have trace minerals

Maybe multivitamins, less caffeine, maybe liver once a month?

Walmart and amazon sell LOLA heating pads that just stick to your panties and last 8 hrs, they helped me SO MUCH

A temporary solution is pinching the sides of your left pinky toe. Helps ride through intense cramping! Heating pads also are helpful to a lot of people.

There’s some research showing that reuseable period products may help. It’s showing there may be a possible links between the toxins in disposable products and it affecting hormones. I’ve noticed when I use cloth pads my cramps are way milder than when I’m using disposables

Zinc is great for periods, along with a healthy, balanced diet.

Try eating foods rich in Vitamin E & Magnesium, like avocado, spinach, & almonds. Studies show that those vitamins help with menstrual pain. Careful not to have too much Magnesium though! Zinc is also good, like someone previously mentioned.

Staying hydrated, taking daily supplements, advil works for my cramp pain.

I started using reusable pads and after the first month my flow got a little lighter. I think because it didn't have the chemicals disposables have

This might sound a bit out there but I manifested easy periods. Mine used to be savage as a teenager then I started telling myself and others that my periods are really easy, never last more than 3 days, and don’t really hurt. I know it sounds wacky but it works 😂

Heating pads, raspberry leaf tea, lots of water, midol, working out the week before, and orgasms as it helps relax the muscles.

Ok, what I have learned over the years helps is: 1.take prenatal vitamins, if you are having periods you still need all those same vitamins. 2. Take a womens probiotic to keep your lady parts balanced. You will not believe the difference that can make! 3. There’s a tea for periods from Traditional Medicinals that helps. Start taking it the week before your period and the week of. 4. Don’t use tampons they make cramps 10x worse.

My grandma told me to eat a tablespoon of blackstrap molasses everyday when I came to her for help. It’s an old remedy that she used to use and now I do it and it has helped me. My period isn’t shorter but it is lighter and I don’t cramp as much. It’s mild cramping. Like I don’t even need a heating pad cramping. It took the next period to see results. You can get this at most grocery stores. Hope this helps! ❤️

Have you have your vitamin levels checked? I would also change your diet. It could just be a hormonal imbalance unless you have a gynecological disease.

Ibuprofen and Tylenol around the clock on those bad days

My friend swears but her clean, pescatarian diet shortening her periods. She only had 3 day periods and no symptoms.

Yes and no. Birth control only masks the problem. Have you had the painful periods investigated? For me it's ibuprofen, and heat. I usually can barely walk for the first 2 days. I end up taking ibuprofen and cocodamol and have to have constant heat on my stomach and back or a tens machine. I have PCOS which is why they are so painful.

@Jessica I haven't had them investigated. Always just assumed genetics or whatever.

I agree with the above suggestions for getting rid of tampons - these were giving me such bad cramps it was unreal the relief I had when I started using menstrual cup. In regards to managing the pain - have a look at the Tens machine. I only found out about this in my pregnancy and for contractions they were a miracle so I kept them afterwards just in case I ever get bad cramping.

I don't ķnow where you stand on disposable or reusable products but I always suffered really bad period cramps and heavy bleeding and I got reusable products and it has been a complete game changer!

This sounds like you need to address the root cause. Periods should not be painful! Also you should have 1-2 medium to heavy days and then it taper to a lighter flow between 3-5 days are the typical normal cycle days. What is your diet like? Do you suffer of any other issues? There’s a lot to Unpack here message me if you’d like!

Vitamin D3!!!! There was a study done in Taiwan showing that it reduced menstrual cramps. I know that sounds super random but I read it in a newspaper, after experiencing a difference myself. I started taking it, because my husband is supposed to take it for his thyroid. Definitely worth trying!!! (Though it probably doesn't work for everyone, I was surprised at the difference in cramps. I went from having several to..... hardly any.)

Midol and a heating pad used to work wonders for me!! As well as staying hydrated. Also heard that intercourse works too but never tried that cuz I don’t even wanna be looked at when that time of the month rolls around lol sorry that you’re in pain!! Hope this helps 💕

@Rina no other issues that I know of. They've always been heavy but heavier since having kids. I was on birth control for most of my 20s. Stopped when we got married and had our youngest two. After my last my periods were really wonky, like coming every two weeks. So my obgyn put me back on bc to try to regulate it. Did that for about a year. Been off since May and they do seem more regular now but back to being heavy and painful.

@Bethany I'll try it! I need more D anyway. I have some and usually forget to take it 🙈

@Rachel that’s a common misconception hun that birth control with “regulate” your period but all it’s really doing is suppressing your hormones and not letting you ovulate causing more issues once you do come off so you really need to support yourself during this time. ❤️

I found eating fruit helped. My natural period has never been too bad, bur I've had pills that had made it bad and that's when I discovered fruit seemed to help. Bad period pains usually a sign somethings not quiet right hormone wise in your body as it shouldn't be horrific

I found cups being helpful and so much less messier and smelly. I feel like they helped my cramping. I always used pads and tried period panties. Panties were a no go for sure

Use reusables. Many women find that their flow is less heavy or they have less cramps after changing to reusable. Personally I’ve been on period undies and the cup for 6yrs. Make sure you’re eating and drinking well and taking vitamins
