Baby hardly eats

He will be 1 year next month and still hardly eats. Even when he seems starving and is grabbing for us to put the plate in front of him he will only eat maximum half the plate. He then keeps indicating he wants breastfed. How do I get him to reduce his breastfeeds and eat more solids. He also wakes throughout the night and I am wondering if this is linked. Is he up all night because he is hungry? Is he eating too much at night and so doesnt eat in the day? Is it large adenoids or something that is affecting both? Idk :(

Just wanted to let you know you are not on your own, I am in a similar situation with my LO. I just keep offering a wide range of food in the hope she’ll prefer it to her breastfeeds one day! You’re not alone! xx

This is very very normal. Emma Pickett has a podcast makes milk with an episode ‘starting solid food’ which explains the logic/ science behind this. Baby takes what they need and atm your milk is giving them what they need. As they start to need more they’ll eat more solid foods. They’re smart, keep offering and they’ll take what they need 😊 x

@Yasmin does this also apply if baby used to be brilliant with solids, like completely loved food but started completely refusing a month ago? Asking for myself because I am at a loss, there’s only so many times I can tell myself it’s because of illness and teething 😂

@Alex haha I feel you on that 😂 I’m not sure tbh the logic would make sense though! If it makes you feel better my baby goes through phases which ranges from ‘I love food’ one day to ‘absolutely not I refuse to even taste’ for the next 3 x

@Yasmin my baby is in the ‘refuse to taste and will scream if we even think about it’ phase 😂 I wish it was a phase… she was doing amazing with blw but once this food refusal thing started we had to revert back to pouches, now she’s refusing them too 🥲 hoping it calms down for us all soon! x
