With holding poo

Has anyone got any experience with their LO holding their poos in? My LO refuses to go to the toilet and then complains of his back and tummy hurting when he clearly needs a poo. I am currently using fig syrup, fruit pouches and coconut oil but not much is working so far 🤷🏼‍♀️ I am trying to talk to him about it and why he won't go on the toilet... but he just cries and screams. Would really love some guidance 🙏

We’re currently going through this, and we seem to be over the worst of it. I’d highly recommend speaking to your doctor. We used laculose for a few months, but I knew it would never be a long term solution. A few weeks ago we got movicol from the doctors and it’s made a world of difference after a really awful few months. I know the can be many reasons why they withhold poo, but the main one is pain… they popped, it hurt and so they don’t want to do it again, and as much as we explain that it won’t hurt, they need to believe it themselves, which is why medication is recommended. I highly recommend the Eric website which helped me lots when trying to find a solution and help my little boy x

I told my daughter that if she did a poop on the toilet, she could have a chocolate bar! I just needed her to do one to get over the fear! She's much better now after potty training for a month and getting over the initial fear, but she hates the smell and sometimes reverts back to holding them in if she does a smelly one! I have explained that if she does it in the toilet and flushes it straight away, it won't be as smelly, and she gets a chocolate button when she does a poop on the toilet. Probably bad advice to use bribery, but it worked for us!

My 3 year old went through this, speak to the doctor and they’ll probably prescribe lactulose or movicol, I find movicol is a lot better! But if you want something natural, dates are the best! My little girl loves them and now happily goes to the toilet with no problems. Happy to help if you need any more advice etc, as I’m my little girl is July 2021 ☺️

I am currently using fig syrup as 'medicine' which is going well but still early days 🙏 I have actually tried offering rewards if he does it, even in his nappy at this point as he seems more comfortable doing it in them, but he isn't bothered about getting or not getting it 😅
