UTI

Hey lovelies! I’ve just been told by the doctor that I have a UTI. I’ve had it for a week now and they’ve only just told me. The doctor prescribed me with Nitrofurantoin but it states online it shouldn’t be taken in the 3rd trimester. I know UTI’s can start early labour… I’m just abit worried now! If anyone has had a UTI - please tell me what they prescribed you as i’m low-key stressed haha! Thanks in advance!

You’re absolutely right, nitro isn’t one that should be used in late stages of pregnancy. I was given cefalexin which is absolutely safe. I would call your midwife and just explain that you’re a bit concerned as you don’t think they should have given it. Also try drinking some cranberry juice to help, always helps me with UTIs

@Betty funnily enough - the midwife said it was fine. I’ve disagreed and called the GP asking for cefalexin instead! I’ve been downing cranberry juice too!! thankyou hun!

How weird! How many weeks are you? I’m pretty sure that it’s from 37 weeks that you shouldn’t have it as that’s classed as full term x

i had a uti at 33 weeks. was prescribed amoxicillin for a week and was fine.

@Betty so sorry I haven’t replied! Oh I know!! I went and collected my prescription and guess what they gave me🤦🏼‍♀️🤣 So I said no, and they gave me cefalexin instead!! I’m nearly 39 weeks pregnant x

At least they gave you the right one in the end! Hopefully it got you sorted! Xx
