How can anyone afford the dentist?!

So I moved to Wales Pembrokeshire last year so lost my nhs dentist place from where I was I've been on the hunt ever since for a nhs dentist and can not find one!! Hoe can anyone afford £159 for a private appointment I'm pretty sure I have gum disease and my teeth are just deteriorating however I can't afford nor justify 159 and then more charges on top of that for treatments 🤯

It's insane right?? If you think it's gum disease go to your GP and see if you can get an NHS referral, they may see you then on NHS rates but it has to be classed as an urgent appointment. I moved to chepstow from Birmingham area and lost my place and my only appointment I've had since cost £100

Do you have a dental college near you? In Cardiff, they do free dental there, but you have to be available on their terms. I used to go there but have since moved from the area, I haven't even managed to find a dentist, if it's an emergency I'd be able to get an appointment, I qualify for NHS, but there's nowhere accepting patients here so I've given up

Hi there! My husband is a dentist (NHS) and he said that if you think you have gum disease and are struggling to find a dentist many dental practices will have direct access appointments with the hygienist that you can book. They are still £50-75 but will allow you to see the hygienist/have a 20-30 minute gum treatment and get any relevant advice without needing to see a dentist directly. Unfortunately they can’t treat other issues, but they can help with gum disease!

I pay a dental plan per month, it covers everything apart from cosmetic such as teeth whitening. They grade you when you’re in there to see what band you need to be on. My teeth are like cheese and crumble when I eat anything so I’m on the maximum band and I pay £21 a month, my husband pays £10. It also covers the hygienist visits. It’s my god send ❤️

Hello, I’m exactly in the same boat as yourself. I’ve recently moved to Pembrokeshire and lost my NHS place back home. Nearest NHS dentist is 53 miles away…. I’ve had no choice but to go private as my bottom tooth is crumbling since pregnancy. My new dentist offers Denplan and that’s the only way I’ve managed to do it. I hope this helps :)
