Food portion sizes

Can I please ask or see the size of the food portions you offer your LO? I ever know how much is too much, I give as much as is eaten, start smallish and add more but I worry sometimes he gets too much (like fruits or biscuits especially when he just cant stop eating).

We tend to use the plates with 3 sections which I find useful when judging how much to put out

Little ones are really good at judging their appetite. A dietician told me this and to look at the week as a whole rather than how much they eat day to day.

@Danielle we have the same, but I worry he sometimes eats like 2 plates at once. And I know they dont normally overfeed themselves but there could be exceptions. I look at the portion sizes in nursery and they are half of what he would normally have 🤣 nevertheless, the cakes are huuuge!!

@Sam I only tend to look at it that way if he has days when with a cold or something and wont eat as much but it balances out eating more during the rest of the days. But when he eats looots everyday is when I worry about overfeeding. He doesnt have any sugar intake at home (apart from fruits) so its not sugar cravings. I might overthing this...

I wish my bub would eat! He used to be a such a good eater but now I'm lucky if he has a spoonful of cereal. I would say don't worry, I'm sure LO will let you know they're full. If you can bulk up on protein and veg defo try to, but just enjoy him eating while it lasts 😊

To be honest I also have a 7 year old boy and when he was my daughter’s age he would eat everything and anything but he’s always been active so burns it off where as my daughter definitely just had a small appetite 😅. I wouldn’t worry for now though because the 2 year checks with the health visitor is coming up and they might be able to either tell you everything you’re doing is fine or advice if you need to change it up a bit

My little boy has huge portions of food and then always asks for more afterwards. This evening he had two Weetabix, a baby bell, two toddler biscuits, some raisins and a banana for his "supper" and his nursery sheet says he ate all of his food (breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks) at nursery. He's really tall tho and has been in 2-3 clothes since like 16 months. He's not overweight but is seriously toned as he never sits still so I just assume he needs the energy and I get him food until he decides he doesn't want it anymore. But then yesterday, he was at nursery and ate there then refused to eat anything else at home.

I prefer to give mine too much than not enough and she’s usually pretty good at telling us when she’s done. I make sure she has a variety of protein, carb, fruit and veg to make sure she’s getting a balanced diet but she doesn’t always eat every one of those.

@Betty we might have the same kid lol. He is at 98% both weight and heigh, so not overweight, and he looks fit 😊. He is active all day long and always asks for snacks and has almost adult size portions (when I say we start with smallish portion is basically how much I think a kid his age would eat which is too little for him). Good to know other foodies are out there 🙂
